View Full Version : A Good Way To Convert Music

I did a search for posts like these and couldnt find any answers sooooo...

I have 21Gigs of music in MP3 form (in a seperate folder from My Music) and I was wondering if there is any way to convert it all to AAC. I know that I can do it through iTunes, but that would take forever and also it would make copies of it and then I would have to delete the original then move the copy....

I am getting my iBook soon, and I want to conserve HD space. I can care less about saving space on this machine, and I really just care about the iBook space. I will be transfering all of my music to my iBook and I am just wondering if there is an easy way to convert it on my current machine (windows), or if there is a way to convert the music while transfering it to my iBook.

Also when I convert it through iTunes, it puts the file to play default in real player (it plays in real player, and the symbol is real player), is there anyway to make it iTunes (with the iTunes symbol)

Sorry, but I reckon iTunes would be the quickest way. I was in the same predicament a few months ago and I used iTunes. I just had to keep coming back every few hours and search for double ups to delete because there wasn't enough space for two libraries.

As for Real Player being the default, right click on a music file and select Get Info. From there, you should be able to see a Real Player icon and a drop down menu for Open With. Select iTunes and select save for all or something like that. :)

Alright, I'll just start this long task...

Two more questions though.

1. When I edit the information (track name, artist, etc.) will that information stay the same the next time I add it to iTunes, or will I have to change it again?

2. Whats the best way to get Artwork, a program, widget, or internet....?

Thanks

there is a widget that helps you load artwork, just discussed on the forum last week

Changing the information in iTunes should convert the tag which means that it will be changed next time you add it to a library. :)

Plus a widget (http://www.apple.com/downloads/dashboard/music/albumartwidget.html) you might be interested in. :)

Well, I'm pretty sure "tags" are inbuilt into MP3s and AACs so don't worry about it. It just means a kind of hidden part of the file that stores all the information. :)

No problem. :)

Good luck with the converting. It can be pretty epic, but it's worth it. I got about 60GB down to about 45GB... Of course, that was two months ago and I'm back up around 65GB now. :(
