I have a late 2008 MBP, 8GB RAM, 2.66GHz Core 2 Duo, 320GB HDD. Will do a fresh install.
Which performs better? I have an aging machine and want something that performs well. I think I can do the updates to Apache, PHP, and MySQL just fine. Primary functions will be as a public web server and private file server.
So, which would be better in my case? Of course, usually older = assumption of less resources = faster, but there may or may not be code optimizations I'm aware of in the newer releases. Also, I want to work with MySQL, not PostgreSQL.
Or... is there a simpler solution, like just using a standard installation of OS X and enabling different sharing options in System Preferences and installing other software as necessary?
