Hiding both Notification Center and Spotlight creates a weird spacing issue

I'm trying to keep my menu bar clean and thus I'd like to remove both the Spotlight and Notification Center icon. However, when I remove both of them a weird spacing issues happens, that doesn't take place when only one of them is hidden. As you can see the clock is pushed all the way to the right instead of leaving a bit of space (like the drop-down menu does) and looking the way it did in 10.6 and 10.7 when hiding Spotlight.



Does anyone know if this can be fixed in some way?
