It's all in the title. I just wanted to reinstall Mountain Lion on my Macbook Pro and I want to make sure it won't delete my User files. I currently have no back ups but I am creating some now using rsync. I'm also using crashplan.
Nope... a standard reinstall will not delete your user files.
To delete you user files you would have to start Disk Utility in the installer screen and format the entire drive. Not something you are going to slip up and do by accident.

They will stay the same. If I snuck in your house and reinstalled ML on your machine, you would never know from using the machine. (Although, you may be missing a beer or two. 🙂)
Thanks! So If I just wanted to reinstall OS X Mountain Lion on my computer just cause I felt like my computer might run a little better(or to help my paranoia) could I do that? How long will it take?

But since it doesn't change much, it won't change much...you'll end up where you started, minus a bunch of your time. And just make sure that backup works before you embark on the plan.
