I have been hanging out on this site for a while, and I've noticed a few people bring Anime up from time to time. I wonder if some of you otakus would like to identify yourself.

As for me, I have too many DVDs to list. I've spent about $7000 on them over the years and have probably somewhere between 400 and 500. I have never pirated any of it.

While I'm here, let me generate discussion by saying that Eva is probably the worst anime I've ever seen in my life, but yet it seems quite popular amongst the masses.

I like Anime, i dont own quite as much as you but i do enjoy some of the Classics like Metropolis, Akira, etc. I also like Princess Mononoke, Ghost in the Shell, and some others that i cant seem to remember.

I remember one, Orange something or another, it was pretty good. Having a decent grasp on Japanese has helped me in watching Anime, and if i dont understand I usually just end up bugging my wife to translate it for me, or switching captions on :p

good stuff, id love some reccomendations if you have any

I like some anime, but admittedly, I go to my local Blockbuster so I have a limited selection to choose from. ;) I've seen Eva, over 30 Kenshin ova (a friend had VCDs), Escaflowne, His and Hers Circumstance, Steel Heart Angels (?), a really short one called Video Girl Ai (?), something something about DNA, Nadesico (ova and the movie), Tenchi (way overrated I think), El Hazard, Rahxephon, er... I know I've seen more.... Ninja Scroll, Cowboy Bebop, er... I'll edit when I think of the others. Hee.

I don't like the drawings but do like the storyline for Escaflowne. I liked El Hazard and Rahxephon a lot, too.

I like anime, although my brother is the real fanatic. I don't really own any. That's what Netflix is for. Almost done with the Ghost in the Shell series (not as good as the original movie). Next up will be Neon Genesis Evangelion and Initial D.

I am like you, many, many DVD's (and tons of OLD VHS). I've seena ton of stuff. Dragon Ball Z cannot even be considered Anime, and I wish death upon anyone that thinks it's decent animation/story/plot or characters. By the way, they ripped off the hair turning blond/spikey from Akira.

So, Eva being the worst anime? No. Eva is great. It has a point at the end of it. It's not your usual Giant Robot anime. Speaking of which, Giant Robo is awesome.

Samurai Champloo and GITS:SAC are the two series of late that are quite good. In fact, jsut finished the GITS:SAC series and have the metal collectors box and laughingman t-shirt. I could list most series/shows I have. I tend to stay away from msot movies as they're basically jsut crap now a days.

Thee's a lot of good Anime and a lot of bad. You know its bad when Akira, a film made in the mid 80's has superior animation to it (that and 98% of Akira was hand-drawn).

So, yes, I love anime.

Hentai? Sure, I own it, it's cool, but it's not my fav. I prefer real women. Ah, I love the japanese.

Inuyasha
Fullmetal Alchemist
Samurai Champloo
Paranoia Agent (odd, but interesting)

My favorites out of those are Inuyasha and Fullmetal Alchemist. I also plan to watch Neon Genesis Evangelon on Adult Swim when they start running it in October.

I don't mind watching it so long as it has a good story line and avoids incessant screaming for no real reason.

It tends to be better than some crap on T.V. and sometimes it is the crap on T.V.

Am I the only one?

I find that after many years of watching anime and playing plot-heavy games that originated in Japan, that often there are holes in the plot (poor translation?) or plot twists that are simply bizarre to a gijin and chalk it up to the cultural differences. This happens so very very often (the most obvious is deference, something that simply doesn't exist in the same way in the west), but I always write it off. Consequently, I think sometimes I am too lenient in what is "good" anime, and what is "crap" anime.

It's gotta be really good for me to get into.

Cowboy Bebop is Godlike. Macross Plus: Godlike. SE Lain: Godlike.

I can't tell you how bored I am with FMA and Inuyasha. When I saw that girl shatter that jewel and it scatter all over the world, I was like : "great, now we'll have to sit through 300 episodes of this d@mn show just to see them get these little shards back." *sigh* Boring.

Naruto? Eh. I could care less, honestly.

Escaflowne was a good show too. Man was that awesome.

Well, I'll be going to NDK next month, hopefully get the last couple of Range Murata artbooks that I need. I got this awesome Last Exile metal/leather keychain there last year. Hopefully some decent musicians there and all. I dunno. I'm just rambling cos I'm so tired that I can feel myself nod off in my office. GAH!

I get most of my anime from cartoon network, like many others. but I foudn a few there I really like. I loved outlaw star, I enjoy dragon ball Z (though get frustrated by how a scene that should take 10 minutes gets spread out over three episodes). I loved the cowboy bebop movie, and the show was decent too (the movie was much better though in my opinion and had the best DVD sound mixing I think I've ever heard). Princess mononoke, spirited away, nausicca of the valley of the wind, all those are good. I though Kiki's delivery service was cute and very watchable (and a nice change of pace from the normal anime violence or sex stuff).

Ever see Urusie yatsura (not sure if I spelled that right). That's a funny show to watch drunk with some friends.

Grave of the fireflies is a really depressing but really well made movie.

A lot of anime I've watched is completely over rated. Evangellion I hated, Metropolis I didn't like at all. I never got into any of the Gundam series. samurai Champloo looks OK but hasn't spoken to me when I've watched bits of it. I thought Ninja Scrolls was ridiculous. I guess there's very specific things I like about anime, so I don't end up liking a lot of what other people I know who like it do.

Over 30 Kenshin OVAs? Considering there were only 3, each with 3 eps, I find that a little hard to swallow. You sure you didn't see episodes of the TV series? :) I think there were 3 to start with, and then the 3rd recently made which showed an ending to his and Kaoru's life.

Kenshin OVAs were called Samurai X.

Ed, you must be thinking of Kimagure Orange Road, which means something along the lines of "Whimsical Orange Road." It's about a typical anime high school love triangle drama with a twist -- the main character, whose name escapes me at the moment, has weird psychic powers he got from his mom's side of the family. It's pretty interesting, but the last few episodes are heart-wrenching because of what happens to poor Hikaru. :(

The classics are always good, but I never got into Akira. I like Anime with a bit more of a "fun" feel to it. Since you like some of the classics, I'd look for Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex on Cartoon Network's adult swim and give Bubble Gum Crisis and BGC 2040 a try. They're good cyber-punk animes.

I didn't even remember the Akira hair thing. DBZ started in the late 80s, but it was just after Akira was released. However, I would submit to you that the DB Manga was made throughout the 80s, and the anime came years after. It's possible Akira was made after the hair changing stuff in the DBZ mangas were aleady released.

Nadesico is the first series I ever bought on DVD. I love it! It's hilarious, and a great spoof on all the cheesy robot anime. I recently picked up all 7 robotech boxes for $17 each from an ADV blowout sale.

You think IY is boring, but like CCS? :P At least it isn't as bad as Eva. The first 4 eps of Eva were great, and then until the last 2, it was just the same thing every day. They wake up, the penguin does its thing, what's her name chokes back a few cold ones, the angels come, they fight, someone has a problem with their Eva, and then nobody gets any sex0r.

Don't own a whole lot, but apparently I've been watching anime for some time. Used to watch Transformers, The Adventures of Tom Sawyers (very bizarre) and Reboot (which I don't see as anime, but some do) when I was young.

As for now:
Cowboy Bebop
Inuyasha
Escaflowne
Ghost in the Shell: SAC
Saber Marionette J
FLCL

I tend to have more soundtracks than DVD/VHS though as I love Yoko Kanno's music and Maaya Sakamoto's voice. And somehow the animes I enjoy often have Paul Dobson voicing (English) an evil character: Faust-SMJ, Naraku/Myoga-Inuyasha, Folken-Escaflowne, Matrix-Reboot (not really evil there, but still).

The last three are not considered anime, as they are American shows. However, Teen Titans is obviously taking a lot from the Anime way of doing things.

You're crazy. BGC 2040 was amazing. The original series had horrible songs (except maybe for Mad Machine) and lame plots. BGC 2040 had character development that was intense and so well written, I watched the last 3 dvds straight through.

But as for picks some of the best that I have watched but haven't seen in a while was "Ninja Scroll", "Princess Mononoka" and "Grave of the Fireflies". Fireflies still always makes me tear at the end (very hard thing for me to do for any movie, especially an anime).

I studied Japanese for many years, but haven't had much practice with conversation. As such, if I listen to the Japanese I tend to focus on what they're saying rather than reading the subtitles, and since I'm thinking I am not enjoying the show. (Let's face it, you don't think when you watch tv.) So, I tend to use dubs unless the dub is just horrible. That often happens.

Actually, David Lucas did Spike's voice scenes in Cowboy Bebop (It's Blums Screen name). He's also done voices in Wolf's Rain, X (the TV series), FLCL, Great Teacher Onizuka and a ton more. check out his profile
here (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0089710/?fr=c2l0ZT1kZnxteD0yMHxsbT01MDB8dHQ9MXxmYj11fHBuPTB8cT1EYXZpZCBMdWNhc3xodG1sPTF8bm09MQ__;fc=1;ft=20; fm=1)

Yoko Kanno has a lot of relationships with Anime Directors. She's done soundtracks for multiple people on multiple projects, and continues to be the best composer around (take a look at Ghost In The Shell: SAC or Wolf's Rain or Macross Plus or Cowboy Bebop's OST's, they're amazing.) Her vocalist, Gabriella Robin is amazing. Wish I could find a picture of her, cos if she's as hot as her voice....YABBA!

Dubbed only goes when it's done well. GTO's voice dubbing was horrible. Excel Saga....God, I hope the voice actors get shot. After seeing 1 episode dubbed at an anime shop (and had seen over half the series fansubbed before it's USA release, mind you), I found my ears bleeding. Ruined the hole series for me and I can never watch it again.

The ORIGINAL dub to Akira was awesome. It's sad they didn't keep some of the best lines for the re-dub (circa 2000). Sure, there were some crappy lines in the original and it wasn't translated over to the best it could have been, but hearing Tetsuo's "Bitchin! I feel like I can take on the whole world today!" was always such fun.

I've watched Ghost in the Shell, GitS 2: Innocence and (I belive) all of GitS: SAC.. as well as some of 2nd GIG.

Watched part of Yu-Gi-Oh! with a friend, but we got bored halfway through (I'm not sure if we even got that far).
Watched part of a series about a boy that finds a female android in the trash or something. It was painfully bad. Don't remember the name.

Generally, if the main cast consist mostly of kids, there's a good chance I won't like it.

Guess my interest in anime is limited to Ghost in the Shell...

On another note, I prefer subbed to dubbed. Dubbing just doesn't sit well with me. Don't know a single word of Japanese.

I was into anime much more a few years ago. I'd like to get into it more but I have a little trouble finding series that can feed my interest yet not drag on too long.

My Favorites are probably Fooly Cooly (aka FLCL), it's just strange, I love that. The other is probably Perfect Blue, if Disney made a Psychotic triller it'd be that. :D

I also own Akira, Ghost in the Shell, Princess Mononoke the Animatrix as well as the Escaflowne series and the Cowboy Bepob series. The latter two I bought off of ebay and I'm almost positive they're counterfeit. :o

Recently I've been watching a series called Bleach, it's pretty good and for the most part I enjoy it but now it's starting to get on my nerves the way it's been dragging on.

I hope you're not talking about Mamoro Oshi. His renditions of Ghost In the Shell are HORRIBLE, as was RONIN, as was anything he's ever done. The first movie is based on the first graphic novel. Only, it's about 1/3 of the whole story line. And there were no fuchikomas (now known as Tachikomas).

GITS:SAC OWNS GITS the movie.

And the series (two-part OVA) of the boy finding a robot girl in the trash, known as GUNM or Battle Angel Alita, is awesome. You go to hell. You go to hell and you die. It's a shame GUNM didn't get animated into a full sized show. God, how awesome that would be.

I *seriously* doubt we're talking about the same thing here.

Battle Angel Alita?

There was no battle in the series I watched, that's for sure. Unless you're talking about the battle going on in the main characters pants.

No, it was no hentai. But I was half-excepting it to be become one. Maybe it did, but I stopped watching it before it went far.

If going to hell means I don't have to be in the same existence as this series, then I don't mind.

Edit: Well, I digged some stuff up about Battle Angel Alita. I'm pretty sure now it's not the same thing. It has a concept I could actually like. The artwork I found were the first clue.

Also; Battle Angel (http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0437086/) on IMDB. Scheduled for a 2007 release. Not drawed or 3d rendered though. Seems to be Live action. OOoops.

Counterfeit,

Sorry for messing up the directors. Oops. :)
You should be more worried about misspelling my name!

That series about the boy finding an android in the trash was probably Chobits.

The Battle Angel OVA sucked. It covered a grand total of 2 of the nine volumes of the GUNM/Batle Angel Alita series. It did use the main character's original name though.

GITS:SAC OWNS GITS the movie. Could you possibly imagine anyone managing to make a Shirow manga into a 2 hour movie? I don't think it's possible. Also, the movie and the series are really completely separate from each other, and neither have Shirow's humor in them (the game does though :D). That's part of why I didn't like the new Appleseed. It looked ****in amazing, but they almost completely changed the relationship between Deunan and Briarios, and really cut corners on the music (half was the stuff they hyped, the other half was MIDI voiced). Heck, even the assassins were completely based on the suits from Bubble Gum Crisis/Crash (not that they're bad, but Shirow can do some damn fine mechanical designs himself. Like the tanks in the opening scene. completely his style there)

Of course Bleach is going to drag on, it's based on a Shonen Jump manga  just like Naruto (170+ episodes  ) and others.

I hope James Cameron doesn't cast the wrong person for the main role in Battle Angel, that part will make or break the movie.

I never saw the show. I heard they were going to dub it for Fox Saturday morning or something. Did that ever happen?

Steven

Yes, Fox did do that, but they toned down the violence and language, made an "English" version intro (i.e. replaced Maaya Sakamoto's) and dropped the series about halfway through right before an immense battle.

I believe that Bandai now has the entire TV series dubbed in a much more complete manner than Fox had it.

Come to think of it, there's a lot of "finding girls in trash heaps" kinds of Anime. Battle Angel, Chobits, Buttobi CPU (I Dream of Mimi, eck). Yeah, i wasn't too amused by Chobits either.

As for AppleSeed, you have to admit it was a lot better than the original Anime. Better than the Manga? No, not at all, but WAY better than the original anime.

Speaking of Shirow, if you haven't read GITS 2: Man-machine interface, don't. The art is amazing, but the story is this waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay out of bounds philisophical, dramatic and rather boring BS that I think Shirow was on drugs to create. Kind of like ol' Walt and Fantasia.

And, as one of you mentioned Bleach and Naruto being VERY long, I agree. Some things just need to end. I would hav eloved to see another Season of Cowboy Bebop, or Wolf's Rain, or tons of other Anime, but those were all PERFECT the way they were.

Now, Trigun was horrible for the fact that it screwed around with all of these stupid episodes while they could have gone on with the story. Then the last two DVD's they cram in as much info as they can. GAH! Torture.

im really just a newbie into anime, but i watch them in the same way that i watch a movie. there has to be a good balance between all points of the story, the animation, the charachters, and the MUSIC. i tend to put more emphasis on the music because that is what can turn a good story into a gripping one. with that said Cowboy Beebop is awesome, and one that i was told to watch but diddnt think i would like is BLEACH. the music in the anime grabbed me from the first episode and the storyline, although not the best in the world, has me wondering how the whole Soul Society system runs on a day to day basis.( of course i wont learn that, there is always going to be a fight or something expoding and people running and disobeying orders from their captains for it to be anywhere close to a normal day) if anyone else is watching this at the moment let me know what you think. Good or Bad?

This being my first (anime ;)) con ever, I'm somewhat nervous. I feel at home with geeks and nerds, but I've never really met a crazed/obsessed otaku before. That and being in a "crowd" of 22,000-ish people kinda unsettles me. I don't deal well with crowds sometimes (I was really annoyed by some people when I was at the post-Super Bowl rally in Government Center in Feb of '04.) I hope I have fun though. If not, I'll just find someplace to have a few drinks or something. Maybe the Ravens are playing an exhibition game at home on Sunday..

I'm not going. I love anime, but I hate cosplay/role play/anyone who dreams in anime. I like anime for the stories and plots more than anything else. I'm not much of an artist. From what my con-going ex told me, anime cons are loaded with people in need of reality checks (like herself) and people looking for gay hook-ups.

So no, I won't be going. If you are ever out near San Francisco, though, hit me up and we can blow a whole day on anime and pizza. (That's all we'll be blowing, convention goer. :P)

FMA is a little too depressing/frustrating for me. I really dug Bebop, Mononoke, Kenshin, Chobits. Love hina was kinda funny. Azumanga is ADHD, and funny for it. Totoro - I love the scene ar the bus stop, it's understated but funny. I really have seen too many... And I am a sub snob. I can only take a few dub versions, most just hurt.

Edit: I saw Chris Gore's review of the New Bebop set on AOTS; his verdict was that there was nothing new except 5.1, so if you already have it, might want to save your money.

If youd don't have the MAcross Plus movie, I suggest you buy it. It's the same as the OAV's, but it's not dubbed (subbed), and it has different scenes and actually gives a little more perspective to the whole thing. It also has a different fight scene between Guld and the Ghost Fighter. Pretty damn sweet.

Yus, the new REMIX DVD's of Bebop are 5.1 and the video has been cleaned too, it also has more special features, I think.

X the TV series by Clamp is amazing. You can buy it now in two seperate box sets, DVD's 1-4 and 5-8. Sweet deal.

It depends on what you're into. Chobits...Eh. Not so great. Neon Genesis is a classic but IS over-rated, IMO.

Series: Ghost In The Shell Stand Alone Complex and 2nd Gig.
Serial Experiments Lain
Hellsing
Great Teacher Onizuka
X the TV series
Azu Manga Daioh
ROD the tv series
Earth Girl Arjuna
Saikano
Last Exile

There's a lot of good ones out there. I tend to stay away from the cutesie crap like Chobits, Fruits Basket, and digi-carat. I also stay way from Witch Hunter Robin (BOOOOOOOOORING) BubbleGum Crisis 2040 (boring as well), Dragon Ball (anything DB because it flat out sucks in every way and I wish the creators and anyone who works on it and likes it all die horrible deaths) among other things.

But again, whatever you're into most.

There's some good movies out there too:
Akira (classic)
Ninja Scroll (over-rated by wannabe Otaku, but still a must-see)
Perfect Blue (uncut)
Escaflowne (movie)
Ghost In The Shell and GITS 2 just for the animation

I could go on and on...

I started watching Naruto last night. It's surprisingly good!
Found this (http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=81062742) tonight. He says he doesn't like J-pop, anime, or manga, but it's still cool.
Also, I hang around the Megatokyo forums a bit, and apparently, one of the mods there is in the industry, and I was linked to the blog (http://www.jefflawson.net/blog/archives/2005/08/16/comic-market-68/) of someone who went to Comic Market 68 (huge-as-**** con in Tokyo). The blogger met with the mod (Yagami) and got to meet Range Murata and Yoshitoshi ABe.

So let's see, that's... 4 degrees of separation between myself and two very famous members of the anime industry? :D

Bleach is my current favorite anime series right now. Naruto is in such a crappy set of fillers arcs right now I don't even watch them. Get back to the manga dangit!

I don't understand all the FMA haters. I loved that series. It's boring a times yes, but I found the whole plot intriguing. My wife, who hates anime, even loved it.

Anyways, I have a question for you guys. I can't watch anything that's from Dattebayo (mainly Bleach and Naruto) on my iMac. I think its because I don't have a proper Xvid codec, can anyone help me? I can watch them if they are encoded by Anime-One and Lunar, but they are just too slow in releasing new episodes. I want it now now now! :D I'm using Quicktime 7 of course.

I'll check it out. Thanks! My main reason for wanting to do so with quicktime is to see if it's viable to watch on the new iPod through the conversion available in quicktime pro. I'm converting an old lunar bleach to see how subtitles look as I type this.

dattebayo does something weird with their subs i have no idea why, but it changed around episode 70 or 80 i believe, can't really remember but i remember just suddenly i couldn't play them in QT, i have always liked Lunar as my favorite subbers, they do a great job with bleach and also i believe they were one of the groups that did Dears and Tsukuyomi

A good site is animesuki.com. They are a central hub for all anime series that are currently airing in Japan and have not been licensed here in America. Shows like Naruto and One Piece cannot be found there as they have been licensed. You can find Bleach there since it hasn't been licensed...yet. Boxtorrents.com is another good site for older series. That's where I got FMA and Bebop.

On another note, I finished converting an episode of Bleach to iPod format last night and it's not feasible to watch them on the iPod since the subtitles are illegible. If you speak Japanese however, it's great. :D

Bought ROD 7, Gilgamesh 2, and Nausicaa these past two days

I have a box of anime at home worth $400 from RACS, and I haven't even had a chance to open it yet!

It has ROD7 in it, as well as Chrono Crusade 6. I get to put the lid on two series. I have decided ROD sucks. It started off super cool, and then got too surreal and retarded. Same with the OVA. Oh well.

Yeah, I have had to wean myself a bit lately, but, I like Trigun, at least the early eps, bought it and then it came on CN grrrr....

You liked Mononoke? That dude hasn't made a good movie since Kiki. Trigun was my biggest and only ripoff. I never bought Pioneer (now geneon) again until the prices came down a tad.

Love Hina was great until the 3rd dvd, then it got stupid. I did like Azumanga Daioh, though. Especially the scene when the teacher got hit in the face with the pan.

Kenshin had a good first season, but the 2nd one stunk so bad I didn't even watch the third.

I like dubs sometime. The problem with me is I try to understand the japanese more than I watch the story if I have subs. I can't enjoy it. :) The best dub was Slayers after they figured out who was going to voice Amelia and Zel.

I would never watch DBZ in Japanese. Everyone's a woman except Picolo and Vegeta. Their battle cries are along the lines of "why can there not be peace between us, my good friend?"

BAH! Animesuki is over-rated too.

The best places to get Anime (before its licensed in America) are IRC channels. I suggest Aone and Anbu. They have some of the best rips and subtitles available.

I've stopped watching Fansubs for the past couple of years. I remember seeing series like .Hack//Sign, GITS:SAC, Excel Saga (before that became a POS), Saikano, and many others way before most people did in the states. I was all about .Hack and everyone was like "WTF is that?" And I was like "BAKA!!!!!" and then they cried.

If I had the time/motiviation I'd get back into learning Japanese. Great language. Difficult for us round-eyes. :D

I REALLY want Blade of the Immortal to become an anime series. Man, they could really make it good (the Manga is one of the best around).

There's a large difference between stealing, and fan-subbing and distributing work that will not be released in America. Macross 7, Tekkaman, and others will never be officially released here, and rather than pay some bastard from China or Hong Kong for their crappy DVD rips, get a fan-sub of superior quality.

Plus, ADV used to have their own fan-sub department who subbed new Anime that wasn't licensed in America yet, just to see if it was popular and worth them investing money in to bring over here and officially license.

Fan-subbing is ideal for getting people into new series without paying royalties until you know its worth it.

We all know you're stance on gay/lesbian activity darkwing. No, I don't think either is disgusting. It's human nature. Do I think about two guys? No, hell no, because I'm a straight male. Do I think of two girls? More often then not.

And Key is okay. I got to the movie, and well, fell asleep. Still ahven't watched it even though I own it.

Lol. Human nature. My buddies will get a kick out of that one. :)

The movie is the best part of Key! There are two movies technically at the end. I felt Key was much better than Lain. What do you think of the ending of Lain? It suggests to me that she's in some kind of simulated world and is some anomaly able to access the simulator, as it were. It was a weird one, and sure left a lot of questions at the end.

The ultimate mind-**** is an old British sci-fi called "The Prisoner."

Boogiebop wasn't something I'd be into, and Lain was phenominal and quite a ride.

As it were, Darkwing, let's keep our opinions of gay/lesbian ideals out of this thread, we're talking about Anime. And you and your friends can quote me on the nature hting, because it's TRUE, not opinion, but fact. But nonetheless...

Eva, The Escaflowne movie was a ltitle hard on me too at some points. Something just did't flow well.

At this point, I'm looking for a fansub of GITS2 because I can't find my disc to get it replaced with the disc that doesn't have captions, and from what I hear the official English version blocked a lot of voice out so they wouldn't have to translate it. So, I'm gonna make my own DVD. SCREW DREAMWORKS/GOFISH!

I also wish they'd release Robot Carnival on DVD, and Tekkaman. WTF is up with that?

Onizuka, just because you say something is true doesn't make it any less of an opinion than mine. :)

I did like Lain, I just thought Key was better. My only problem with Lain is the unanswered questions. I hate stuff like that. Anime captivates me because of the stories and long term character development. Seeing where a character came from, and then ultimately having a notion of where they are going, makes me feel all warm and cuddly inside.

It might just be all of the selected series I have viewed, but doesn't this happen often? (the unknown past/unknown future of characters) It seems to me that anime often leaves unanswered questions and the past/future of characters is almost overlooked completely in some cases, where as the manga it came from usually has all of those holes filled....

Not unlike book-to-movie problems; lack of character development, unanswered questions, often doesn't follow text completely, etc....

I realize the iPod video format is pretty small and compressed (I think) but it still would have been nice if Apple would have released video iPods in 80/100GB models, or at least 60/100GB models. It seems time for them to up the storage to allow for more expandability and storage. I realize why they did 30/60 but it still would have been cool to have it go to 80 or 100.

I still want an iPod video, but an Xbox 360 is now my top priority after seeing DOA 4 is coming out for it.

I bought Samurai Champloo, Disc 5 this weekend and man, this seriees never gets boring or old. I love it. And Fuu is so cute. Not as cute as my girl Fey though (will fight for her!)

Apparently Japan is going to see a NEW Hellsign series, which is more based on the Manga and DOES NOT tie in to the original 13 episodes. I think this series will be 13 episodes as well, and will be released in Japan on December 9th.

I download Tekkaman, the original series (because they sTILL have not released it in America) and looking back, the art wasn't that great, but the storyline was decent. I saw the edited for USA version years ago on UPN when they aired less than half the episodes. It's Nostalgic.

I also recently saw Steamboy. It was good, although not as impressive as the legendary Akira.

It's a shame they color-schemed it like the U2 iPod, otherwise it is an awesome background. I just hate the fact that U2 and U2 alone have their own iPod, many other more-deserving groups out there.

Anyway, Bebop is sweet and Spike is the man so that makes the background alright by me :) Do you recall if there was a sheet for each character? Faye would look pretty nice shadowed like that ;)

I think i've figured it out..

the IMDB listings aren't very clear.
"Densha Otoko/I" is a movie version
"Densha Otoko/II" is the actual series, which you mentioned was voted the best Dorama of 2005. It's not a "mini" as listed, most dorama's are around 11 episodes.

Yes, yes it is. Now, you must buy/rent/steal/borrow the DVD and watch it with subtitles ;)

As for anime that makes me cry, it oddly doesn't take much. Saikano did it, Cowboy Bebop did it twice. Kiddy grade did it. This year's MLB playoffs...
Of course, a few had me going "WTF?!", like Kiddy Grade, and Steamboy to a small extent (the whole ice thing was kinda... off), and Chrno (Chrono?) Crusade's ending just pissed me right off.

I cried in One Piece when Nami left her island and Genzo put his Pinwheel uptop Bellemere's grave.

Then I cried when the Strawhat Pirates left Vivi standing on the shore of Arabasta

Then cried at the pure awesomeness that was at the end of the Rainbow Mist arc.

I have cried during a couple of anime series, not full on balling but some teary-eyed action I guess. One was during Love Hina, mostly because at the time I was watching it there were some life experiences that lended me to being cry-prone :(
I also cried during parts of Bebop, mostly because of the music during specific scenes. I'm a sucker for great music coupled with an emotional visual....great series, both of them in my mind. Some don't like Love Hina, but I really liked it.

I cried at Bebop (it is required to do so), Macross Plus (also required as Kano did the music for it too), Grave of the fire flies (if you don't cry during this, you're a robot), and very few others. I guess what hit me hardest was that I relate so much to Spike. Betrayed, removed, and always hunted. It's funny, but it was almost as if I saw a part of me die. Ah, but that again is what makes a series so great... Being able to relate to the characters, eh?

That is what makes a series so incredibly great. I felt the exact same way when watching Bebop, especially the first time. It was crazy because I would watch it with a group of people on 'anime night'. We would watch a few episodes each night, once a week just to change-up the tele norm. As we watched I always wondered if anyone else was feeling what I was feeling, because at times it really felt like I was Spike, I related to everything he said and did! It was amazing.

Part of those same feelings is why I loved Love Hina so much as well. I related to Keitaro quite well and thus the series made a notable impact for me.

It's certainly the most extensive. For only being one full series it's got what? 7 CD's to it?

Macross plus had 4 CD's (Soundtrack 1, 2, Cream Puff, and For the Fans or something, I can't remember the fourth title off hand, but I have them all.) .Hack//Sign actually has quite a few as well.

I dunno. If I can't relate to a series at all, then there's no sense in watching it. X the TV sereis is another favorite, and I'm pretty sure no one's seen a pic of me, but I got my UserName as a nickname from GTO (cos I look a hell of a lot like him, or is it he who looks like me?)

I need to borrow kenshin the series again from my friend

From the Anime/Manga.

X the movie sucked badly. TV series is awesome.

Kenshin pales in comparison to Samurai X. Well, IMO anyway.

and you never answered MY question asking if you're female a page back or so, regarding someone's comments about your avatar looking like you. :D

I find one of the best soundtracks EVER to be Hellsing's. Raid and Ruins (the two soundtracks) are awesome stuff, as good as Cowboy Bebop's stuff. Trigun's soundtracks are good too. Wolf's Rain also. Curious how most anime that's considered "classic" has awesome soundtracks. Guess it's partly because of the soundtracks...

Hey, anyone here ever watched GantZ? That's some wicked stuff, that is. Even though I'd never been too into gore, this series just stuck to me, as much as Bleach and Naruto did, only with Naruto it went all the way up to episode 130 and then they started having fillers. As far as I know, there are still 20 more filler episodes to go (yes, they're gonna start the new arc at episode 178). Just down-right sad, it took away ALL the momentum for Naruto...

Haven't watched GantZ yet. As for Hellsing's soudntrack, it's alright.

Bebop, Wolf's Rain, Ghost In the Shell: SAC and 2nd Gig, MAcross Plus, Escaflowne, and many many others have their soundtracks composed by legendary Yoko Kanno.

I find Naruto to be a more modern Dragon Ball Z, which I absolutely despise. It does not appeal to me whatsoever.

I have a friend at uni who loves Naruto and can't wait to see new eps. I sat and watched one with him and although I found it moderately interesting, I said the exact same thing, "a modern DBZ" which I don't like at all. I have since caught a few eps on CN and I still hold my opinion, there just doesn't seem to be much there for me.

Who did the music in Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke?

i actually like naruto, hate DBZ thou. I think it is better art, music, fights, and better character development.

gantz can be cool aside from the fact that it is two episodes per disc.

I think it's a sick game now....we may never get an answer simply because we want an answer so bad.

Boy / Girl / Unsure

Circle one and pass this back

Go grade-school :p

I think eva is scared, because if "she's" a she, then "she" might think we'd be like "we're nerdy fanboys that want to hump you." And if "he's" a he, he'll really just be lying to us. And eva does not want to lie, so obiously he's a she!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She's a she! BUT AHA!

Close enough for science, I'll buy it :)

I'm like my women, but I don't do the internet thing, and it would suck to burden the anime talk with personal fanboy-humping (just sounds funny), so regardless of your gender eva01 we'll still treat you like one of the guys....or one of the girls if you are a girl, but it will be like sister style not 'other' style  ;)

Agreed. Although, if you come on to me, I will have no choice but to turn on my mojo. And if you're a guy (which I doubt at this point) and you come on to me, I will crawl under a rock and hide there until you start chasing after efoto.

:D

Don't worry, eva01, we're still homies either way. :)

hey here is another question.

What is the one anime you can watch no matter what mood and no matter how long ago you watched it.

Mine just happens to be Martian Sucessor Nadesico, no matter what i can watch the series, so cute ^_^ i love it.

For the other side of everything, i have to be depressed or going insane to be able to watch Perfect Blue

I want a gender answer before anymore anime talk....seriously :p

I can always watch Princess Mononoke even though it makes me sad. I love the show and how it works....happy yet sad at the same time, so f***ing good. I love it.

I have yet to find a series like that, but I am watching Nadesico (yay Netflix! :D), thanks in part to Megatokyo (Naze Nani Megatokyo was inspired by the Naze Nani Nadesico "show" in ep 8 )

hmm i have to get Kiddy Grade. Going up to Tokyo Kid on Sunday YAY. :P

Made it to New England Comics and the Asian Market yesterday, mmm Manga and Pocky.

Gallery on my site is coming up Monday

I need to get the rest of Saikano :/
I need to go to Tokyo Kid again. Maybe I should talk to friend in beantown more often, as he brought me there the first time.
I tried Pocky at Otakon, as there was a box of Giant Pocky (one original, one strawberry) up as a prize for a raffle. Some kind soul offered me a stick of her Pocky, as I had never had it before. It was good, but nowhere near good enough for me to be addicted to it like some people are. Now, if they made a Dr. Pepper flavored version... :D

Pockey's okay. The chocolate covered green jelly things are the best. There used to be this strawberry drink that I can't get anywhere now that was from Japan. The best EVER. They also make these Jelly candies in clear containers shaped liek the fruit (cherry, strawberry). DAMN I LOVE THE JAPANESE!

As far as Anime I can watch anytime: Bebop, Champloo, and Macross Plus, hands down.

I have to be in a really ****ed up mood to watch Lain, Perfect Blue, NGE, Saikano.

I am trying to open up a small business in the middle of the southshore in plymouth MA for selling anime, CDs, DVDs, figurines, wallscrolls, posters, and rentals. As well as art done by the co-owner.

^___^ it will be a wonderful store as of right now the closest store is Tokyo Kid in Boston. Other than that there is nothing.

There should be much more love for Miyazaki / Studio Ghibli in here.

My Neighbour Totoro, Spirited Away and Laputa are my favourite anime films.

Check out here (http://www.nausicaa.net/miyazaki/features/) for more info and reviews and stuff.

I am a fan of Otomo too, I love Akira (manga & the filme equally) although I was a *little* disapointed by Steamboy.

I also like a couple of Korean animaed films, namely 'Oseam' and 'My beautiful Girl Mari'.

check em out :)

I liked Mononoke. I cannot stand Miyazaki's other works.

Otomo is good, ecept for that one flick eh directed the art for, HARMAGEDON. And what's his nuts that directed the 1st and 2nd GITS movies along with PAtlabor? GHA! Can't stand him.
