Ok guys i know a lot of people using the macbook air also play minecraft. In default settings it works but if you wan't to customize it you use mods. So I hope some1 here has used this mod successful.

My air

13 inch i5 2011 4GB Ram intel hd 3000.

I spent the whole day trying to install the sonic ether shader right. The shader mod gives an animated effect on the grass and trees, dynamic shadows and sunlight hits on objects create shadows etc.

So i followed the tutorial in minecraftforums but since I can't register there i hope somebody here can answer.

I downgraded my 1.3.2 minecraft to 1.2.5 , not sure what I did but I remembered changing the minecraft.jar file to a zip, unpacked the contents, copied files of 1.2.5 and transferred to the minecraft folder. Or I just copied and pasted the old 1.2.5 to the minecraft.jar

Then installed magiclauncher. Located the optifine 1.2.5 version and the sonic ether shader. Actually I had also added the 1.3.2 version of optifine as well. There are several versions for 1.2.5 and I'm not sure which is the right one.

As for sonic ether shader i just downloaded the latest core. After a lot of trial and error trying to use different versions of optifine with sonic shader. It finally worked but since I already tweaked the settings in optifine in a previous save, I wanted to use custom textures so I quit the game.

It rendered the shadows and everything the mod does but it's kinda laggy , but I'm pretty sure if i disabled some of the effects there it would work. I'm just after the sunlight shadows and the moving grasses and trees.

After that maclauncher is pretty messed up and I tried uninstalling everything and I don't know.

I hope someone here has solved this

Update >>

I managed to run Sonic Ether but without optifine. I think the there's a conflict between optifine and sonic ether shader mod. If you install optifine, the latest 1.3.2 version or even the 1.2.5 one it should work. I like the fact that you can change a lot of settings using optifine that could increase fps and some quality tweaks as well.

As for sonic ether shader, you need to lower the settings a bit but other than that it's uber nice. The moving grass and the sunlight hitting your blocks looks amazing. It does lag but it's playable if you are using creative mode and you're not building an entire city or something. If only I could use optifine with sonic ether , I could probably reduce the lag. But unless a new 1.3.2 version of sonic ether will be released, I think that would solve the problem in a few days.

So to install sonic ether you need to.

a. download minecraft

b. downgrade minecraft to 1.2.5 , just look for minecraft 1.2.5 jar , you'll find lots of links.

Copy minecraft.jar of 1.2.5 and paste it your users/username/library/application support/minecraft/bin/minecraft.jar

Backup the entire bin folder to be sure before pasting the file.

And make a backup of the new bin

c. read this page > http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/940974-125sonic-ethers-unbelievable-shaders-glsl-shaders-dynamic-shadows-more/

Take note you have to download v8 , default file. Unzip the file to your desktop and click the contents inside. Open installer.jar and apply the mod.

d. Try opening minecraft and you will see it will work. You need to lower some settings though. It lags but it looks good. You may also try the other versions of shader if it works with optifine.

I will post some screenshots here when I'm finished with my new house =)

So guys here's some proof the 2011 13inch air can handle minecraft. There are 2 attached images here, the interior and exterior of a house I'm making. It's like almost done except for the exterior part of the house.

If you check the exterior screenshot pic, the top left , shows the amazing sonic ether shader mode in action and it really makes your creations pop out. Some of the grass are moving ( some don't , I think it's more of an air gpu problem , it just can't handle the gfx requirements ). But if you don't use the shader mod you will be fine.

I also installed here the soartex fanver legacy texture pack. This pack is way better than the default pack. I wished mojang could add more item blocks so I could complete this house =)

So guys if you're using the 2012 air and you have like 8gb of ram. Can you test the shader mod and post your pics here too ? I'd like to see what the new air can do with minecraft.
