When you add a folder to favourites on the left panel, is there a way to change icon of that folder. Also is there any where online I could find icons similar in style to the default icons. In paticular a book icon.

Hi James,
Just Google icons for Mac, preferably 'free' icons for Mac. You'll find a lot to chose from, but here are a few:
http://findicons.com/search/mac
http://weloveicons.com/
http://iconfactory.com/freeware
http://www.rad-e8.com/

Have fun ; ^)

If you find some free icons that you like, simply click the icon name and it will begin the download process automatically. However, going back to your original post, I know of no way to change the colour of an icon in the side panel, certainly not in Lion nor in Snow Leopard I believe. Usually the only ones with colour are system icons.
