DVD Studio Pro has taken a total dump on me, and the problem seems to be with parsing assets.

One project that I had kept causing the program to beachball until the dock pop-up menu read "not responding." Another caused it to quit on start-up (when double-clicked) or on open (after file—>open...).

I trashed prefs; no help. I re-installed the program; no help.

Then I trashed the PAR file that was still hanging around, figuring that a corrupt parse file might be the culprit.

Now get this:
I imported the asset again. As soon as DVD SP began to parse the asset, it quit! The asset is a Compressor-created .m2v file but it opens fine in Quicktime, so I didn't think that the .m2v file was the issue.

Any thoughts?

I am sooooo sad. :(

Upgrade to DVD SP 4. Version 3 was notorious for spontaneous quitting.

Would love to, but I have the Academic Version. Not upgradeable.

Also, all these problems began very suddenly. I had no problems with any asset or any project prior to yesterday.

Now, all of a sudden, I can't do anything at all.

Hmmm....

I created a new project and imported an asset from an old project after deleting its parse file.

No problem. I'm thinking that I have to re-render all the .m2v files.

But what I don't understand is this:

How could the file work perfectly in Quicktime but crash DVD SP? Is this really possible?

What Version OS and QT are you running?

Have you repaired permissions lately? (yeah, I know... )

How much HD space do you have left?

Might be worth re-insalling DVDSP.
