Just got my iPhone 5 along with my kids. All the sudden I started getting text from her friends and her replying back. I freaked her out by texting back to her and her friends! I had some good lol!

I can't be the only parent out their this has happened to with the new iso 6? At first I thought I had a hack iPhone 5.. And for you kids out their, you may want to sneak your parents phone and uncheck your number before they know about this. :D This is only if you are on your parents apple ID account.

Just make your own account and sign in. Then your cool......

I know I did not explain this well as some of you have said. Sorry I am not to nerd standards :0)

WHAT THE *******.... i am so going to be boned, how do you turn this off now once i get ahold of my parents iphones?

What are the changes?

When you set up iMessages now, you can have it go to email addresses and phone numbers. When I get a text, it shows up on my iPhone, iPad, and iMac. I had to turn it off though, I don't think my entire household needs to read my business.

Just turn off your iMessage. I had them do that so they know I am not watching... I sure that will do it. Sorry to freak you all out. But make sure iMessage is off. Again this is you are on your parents account.

parents account? no such thing on iOS.

Is this some agreement with you carrier that you can read your kids texts?

or did you just realize that it was a group message that you were included on.....

because it's probably the last option.

From what I gather his children use his Apple ID.

It's the somewhat confusing (sloppy) way that Apple ID's are set up. A lot of families end up in a situation where there is a shared email address (iTunes ID) then separate Apple ID's. Any and all ID's are options when you set up iMessage. It results in situations like the OP's.

The default settings should be to the cell number only...then let each device opt in the other email addresses they want tied to iMessage.

To all confused:

With iOS 6, Apple allows you to send/receive messages from any and all phone numbers and emails tied to the same Apple ID. Thus, if your family shares an account, you can set it up to receive every text sent to every phone. You can manually change this in your iMessage settings, but you have to do it on every device. Pain in the ass.

Ur making zero sense. WTH is a "hack iPhone". And if u turn off iMessage you won't to able to use it:confused:. The only thing that happened is you're receiving iMessages because u have the same iTunes accts. and all u have to do is "receive iMessages at the correct #". Turning it off is just ridiculous. I am totally lost with what u r saying.

No agreement with carrier.....
Go to settings- Messages - Look for Send & Receive - There is the numbers on that account. iMessage has to be turned on to see this option. Trust me I am the account holder, and anyone with iso6 installed, their phone is on my list to turn on this function.

But ur kids can change where their iMessages are received. You can't control what iMessages u get. Only where they get sent. And it's not parental controls. They don't exist.
