I have Three Uk only just signed up for the One Plan. It seems a load of picture messages have been sent, yet I have no sent any! It is picking up Facebook emails so can only assume it is when I updated my contacts with Facebook?

Can other check and see if they have been billed for a load of picture messages with iOS 6 and Facebook installed?!

I am 99.9% sure that iOS does not allow any apps to send SMS/MMS or Emails. The most they can do is show the SMS/MMS/Email popup - you would have to press the 'send' button yourself.

I also can't see how this is related to the Facebook app.

So unless you are creating and sending MMS messages yourself (or iMessages that are falling back to MMS), then three are making things up :)

Just been looking at all my recent charges.
Not a sausage.

I'd give 3 a ring and find out why.

Yeah I made a complaint about it, just waiting on the answer. Coupled with the terrible 3G speeds in town and I am glad it is only a one month contract.

I just found £17.50 (before VAT) worth of messages sent as mms with @facebook.com as the recipients. I didn't ask it to be sent. It's obviously done it by itself. I spent 35 min on the phone to three and got £10 back (only half the money) and I've to wait till my next bill for the credit!!! It's a con!!

I just signed up to a new 1month contract on three and I noticed my allowance said I had sent 60+ messages when I haven't sent any yet!

I can't see an itemised bill till the end of the month though!?

What happened is that you used the facebook integration to add extra info to your contacts. You then went to send a SMS in Messages, and instead of selecting the person's mobile number, you selected their facebook email. That right there, the act of sending to an email address, takes it from SMS to MMS. Its not the phone or the carrier, its you not looking at what you're sending to.

Well SENSEOTECH when I was sending a mass message to everyone with my new number I didn't get the option to select either phone number or Facebook email. It just did it on my behalf and appeared as the name selected like nothing was different!! And regardless apple/Facebook should warn you of this AUTOMATIC selection anyway!!

Or perhaps instead of taking the easy "it's someone else's fault" way out, you could realize it very clearly states that its sending an MMS and that you weren't paying attention. It still boils down to this: you couldn't be bothered to meter yourself on your mobile plan, and now you're blamin the phone.

Look!! Like I said in plain English in my last comment it does not STATE that its sending an mms anywhere!! It doesn't STATE that its even added email addresses to my contacts and it doesn't STATE which one bits sending to!!! Only the name came up as if I was sending it to their phone as NORMAL!!! So unless apple were to tell us (STATE) this would be the new default then how the hell would we know!??!!

And you're either totally clueless or lying, it plainly states what it's sending, see the giant lettering telling me that I'm trying to send a "New MMS"?

I was sending a bulk SMS!

Doesn't matter, still shows that message:

Bulk SMS is one thing, and will say "New Message," sending to an email is MMS and will say so regardless of the recipient type or number. iOS told you exactly what kind of message you were sending, but you didn't pay attention.

iOS is not capable of group SMS...

Any group text (to emails or phone numbers) gets converted to MMS.
This is easily noticed by the giant lettering saying "New Group MMS"

Ahhh, thanks for that. I had forgotten I turned off group messaging (hated getting them and replying, not realizing I had just blasted a message to a dozen people), and with the setting off, I guess it just sends the same message to each individual, hence why mine was saying New SMS. Still doesn't change the fact that OP was too lazy/self-absorbed to read and is now blaming someone else for his screwup.

I have the same problem (iOS 6, iPhone 5), when sending a group/bulk SMS to 27 people some people received it and some told me they hadn't. Someone then mentioned they had received it to an email address (I didn't know this email address). I thought I'd post in here to back up the OP and hopefully someone will have a full resolution to the issue.

It appears that when using the + button and selecting the person's name it was automatically selecting their Facebook email address (it didn't prompt for a number/email to use despite there being multiple) and sending that person an MMS to their email address.
You can confirm this by selecting their name in the group message and their email address is highlighted rather than their phone number.

The message does not give any clue that it is going as an MMS to some people (it just says 'New Message' at the top), some people seemed to receive a normal SMS.

If I start typing the persons name it came up with the different contact methods (phone numbers and emails) so that way worked fine.

For now I've disabled Facebook contact sync, it's solved my issue and I can send group/bulk SMS now (not sure why the previous person said it doesn't iOS isn't capable?) but is a little annoying that it's meant paying MMS rates for something that should be text.

A colleague tried the same with his iPhone 4, exactly the same issue when using Facebook contact sync and using the + button to add multiple recipients in the stock messaging app (feel free to test yourselves, I suggest disabling MMS in the messaging settings to avoid charges - you'll see an error saying it can't send the MMS).

I'm happy to provide screenshots of the entire process if it helps - but the OP is correct in what they are saying.

I done the same thing, emoj's are also mms! I have gone into settings-messages and turned off MMS and currently in dispute with three for a full waiver! So far I have been offered 50%, I ran up £24.80 bulk texting my new number in ten mins, thankfully I had their 3 app and was playing on my account, or would never of noticed.

I had a phone call from three today, finally agreeing to waive these charges in full. So very happy with outcome
