View Full Version : Metroid Hunters delayed to '06 Q1

Nooooooo! This can't be happening. This is the game that I bought the Nintendo DS for two months ago and it had been delayed twice before.

On the other hand, the new delay could have happened because Metroid Hunters may be going online! For this feature I am prepared to wait as long as it takes but unfortunately there is no confirmation yet. One can only hope.

Yep, i strongly believe this to get Hunters online. my guess is more maps too, maybe a map creator? or would that be up to the Revolution...

Yeah it's good as long as we get online capabilities and some more maps :). But please don't make us wait forever Nintendo - down under here we have to wait even longer than the US for Nintendogs, Animal crossing, and it'll probably be mid-year before we get Metroid now :(.

I really want a game to take on holidays with me next week but I'm kinda stuck for choice at the moment.

Bummer...

I had told myself that I have to wait until this game comes out to buy a DS so that I can save some money... I don't know if I'll be able to do that now!

Nintendo and your dang delays.... grrrrrr....

Oh wait, this is an Apple board... nothing out of the ordinary then ;)

I'm worried about Nintendo. Apparently, they can't stick to their deadlines, and the only explanation they ever give is "we want to add more levels, etc."

At some point, you have to SHIP the product. What a dissapointment. I'm so tired of waiting. :(

1st Party DS Games I own:

Super Mario 64... :)
Kirby Canvas Course... :)
WarioWare Touched!... :)
Yoshi Touch & Go... :(
Pokemon Dash... :(

Where is my...?

New Super Mario Bros
Animal Crossing DS
Mario Kart DS
Elektroplankton
Mario & Luigi 2
Metroid Prime Hunters

Hopefully, Nintendo will make up for the lack of progress in 2006.

I regret buying my DS. I've enjoyed Mario and the new James Bond game, but other than that I don't see any games out, or coming out in the immediate future that will make me want to continue spending money on this handheld.

I'm sure this Metroid game will be awesome...but what is it with Nintendo? They release a new gaming system with the crapiest games imaginable and keep pushing back the release dates for the ones everyone is waiting for.

And why is Nintendo making all these damned 2D games for the DS? If I wanted to keep playing 2D games I would have just bought a GameBoy Advance SP. I purchased the DS to get a new expierence out of handheld gaming--play some of the old Nintendo 64 games while traveling, ect. But, all I am getting out of this new gaming system is a let down.

I think that metroid pinball actually sounds cool... I don't care if the craze died out, or if there ever was a crazy. What is interesting is that this game will come with a rumble pack for the DS.

Unrelated, anyone know when the new Super Mario Bros is supposed to come out? The preview movies have me drooling.

ya, I've been a bit disappointed with the DS line up, which is why I have't bought one yet. Once the online games start to come out I think it will look up for the system. It also took a couple years for Nintendo to start porting older games to the GBA, so maybe next year we will start to see some of the better N64 games for the DS. I'd buy the DS for the N64 Zeldas, especially if they were either released as a single cart or for a good price.

Of course, I will probably buy the Revolution and will be able to get all those N64 games anyways... so maybe that has something to do with it?

I'd Hardly call Super (http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/n64/review/198848.html) Mario (http://gba.gamespy.com/nintendo-ds/super-mario-64-x4/567633p1.html) 64 (http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/n64/supermario64) one of the crappiest games ever.

Just because the DS has a 3D chip doesn't necessarily mean it should do 3D only. 2D games sell like hot cakes. the world dominance of the GBA is testament to that. it just means now they can add much more detailed effects, more colours, more buttons, internet abilities. why should 2D be left to die when it hasnt reach its full potential yet (to play an MMORPG Zelda... :D)

Reread the second sentence in my other post. I said I enjoyed Mario and the new James Bond game. I never called Mario one of the crappiest games ever.

And as for the 2D games...well, I for one have had quite enough of them. The majority of them don't interest me...simply because they are bland sequels to true classic games that came out over a decade ago and really offer no new gaming expierences. As far as I am concerned the best 2D games stopped coming out after the Super Nintendo reached the end of its life.

Now don't get me wrong...2D games are fun and I don't need to be playing in a 3D setting to enjoy a game. However, as of late I just want something new! I still have my original Nintendo and Super Nintendo for when I want to play all the true classic 2D games.

I'm just sick of paying for the same type of thing over and over again. The whole concept behind the DS is extremely original...however, the games so far and the games set to be released within the next year all seem to be the same boring and repetitive little children's games that started popping up on the N64 towards the end of its life.

But to be fair you can't level this at Nintendo. IMHO they've got a fantastic system that is going to take a little while to get the leverage it deserves. It should come as no surprise. It sucks but it happens time and time again from all games manufacturers on all platforms. We're gimps for repeatedly swallowing release dates without skepticism.

The lack of evolution of games is something that you have to blame on the whole industry. Nintendo have actually included new things with the DS such as the touch screen and the microphone to control games. That is an innovation that works brilliantly and is a lot of fun. What have the competition done?

If people keep on buying 2D games then the companies will continue to make 2D games. And I see nothing wrong with that. As much as I loved Mario 64 on the DS I also really appreciate the whole 2D scrollers as well. It's the new ways of interacting with the games that make it fun. Simply adding 3D!=innovative enjoyable gameplay.

Give the DS time. This new wave of games for christmas and early next year will be awesome. The online feature itself will be a perfect reason enough to buy the games.

the DS is far from a disaster.

Sol

The launch line-up has been very thin and this has been the most disappointing thing about the Nintendo DS. The competition will have more titles but Nintendo's competition have always fought quality with quantity. At this point I am not concerned because the must-have games for the DS will be getting released in the next three months. It is too bad that Metroid Hunters is not one of them but if it goes online I for one would not complain. Until then (and beyond I imagine) Nintendogs and Mario Kart DS will keep me playing.

As for the criticism that there are too many 2D games, what is wrong with that? There are games like first person shooters that need 3D engines but most others do not. Of course impressive images sell the game but ultimately it is the whole package of graphics, sound and gameplay that makes a game successful or not.

Wow. comparing the DS to the N64. that takes guts.

Yes, call me 'Guts O'Callahan'. Sing glorious songs of praise in my honor.

Well, they both did launch with 'Mario 64'. And they both had really pathetic launches. All of the highly-anticipated titles kept getting pushed back...

Take note - you're the one that called the N64 a disaster. I simply stated that the software release delays remind me of that first year - where the only great game anybody had to play for months, was 'Mario 64'. However, I would argue that the DS port isn't nearly as playable (sadly).

And it's not like I'm saying the N64 was a (total) failure. I enjoyed it a lot more than the Gamecube (chalky-residue analog stick and all). It could've used some RPGs and, in general, more games. Never-the-less - it had a few gems that you just had to own the system for ('Goldeneye' especially). Whereas the Gamecube really hasn't had any (although, I loved 'Pikmin'). However, lots of people (non Gamecube owners) are getting pretty jazzed over 'Twilight Princess'. That will probably sell volumes more than 'Wind Waker' did.

I wonder what ever happened to 'Wind Waker 2'?

As for sales of the latest handhelds - neither of them are really flying off the shelf. Both have a limited library, etc. However, I expect that to change once the next-gen Gameboy hits the market.

The DS is just the in-between for Nintendo. They had to release something - otherwise - the GBA would be fighting against the PSP. I guess they felt that everybody would flock to the PSP if they didn't respond with something.

My personal opinion is - that the GBA could stand it's ground, based on RPGs alone.

The PSP had the same problem as every other Gameboy rival faced. It was too expensive, didn't have as long of a battery life, lacked games, etc. The system was rushed, and any big-name titles that it had going for it (GT4, GTA) were pushed back - giving Nintendo all kinds of breathing room (which is why you don't see them sweating delays). The fact that it was vastly, more powerful and more acceptable for older gamers to be seen with didn't stop it from being a mediocre product.

Really, I think both systems could've used another year to brew up an impressive launch line-up, make wireless online multiplayer standard, including web-browsing, etc.

Sure, the DS will have it's hit games - I'm not saying it won't...

However, that system will never reach Gameboy numbers. It's just a door-stop to hold the PSP back until they're ready with the next Gameboy.

And it looks like I'll be waiting a few more months before that door-stop is worth picking up again.

Hopefully, they'll have release a black version by then. I can't stand that silver paint...

And last but not least - 2D games will forever rock all over 3D games.

Thank you, that is all.

'Metroid: Prime' did suck. If you weren't such an annoying fanboy - you'd have read that I hated the fact that it didn't have 'free-look' or 'dual-analog' support. Something that every FPS style game makes use of.

You walk with one stick - you look / aim with the other.

Mouse + Keyboard. Left Analog + Right Analog.

That's how it's always been done. Why? Because it makes sense.

I disliked Nintendo's (cheap) solution for this - 'locking-on'.

The overly-simplified control scheme, handicapped the gameplay and made the game too obnoxious to enjoy. It was a regression in every sense of the word - considering even 'Goldeneye' for the N64 allowed such a setup.

All I'm asking from Nintendo - is that they allow players to customize their controls.

I prefer the added difficulty of not being able to lock-on to every enemy, as much as I enjoy the luxury of being able to look around.

'Hunters' (finally) has free-look, in the form of dual-digital. While not as nice as dual-analog...it's a step in the right direction. As a result, I will be getting this game.

As far as I'm concerned, it's going to be the only 3D 'Metroid' game worth playing - unless similar control schemes are added to future 'Prime' games.

The DS concept is a gimmick. It was rushed to the market because Nintendo had to release something to sell against the PSP.

That doesn't mean it isn't going to make them money. I never said that. I simply said that the system is an in-between - while they finish the next Gameboy.

Using a stylus for extended periods of time - for a game like 'Mario' is just annoying. And frankly, I'm not interested in 'three-minute-fix' games like 'Warioware'. I'm in it for the long haul...

It has the 'wow - neat' factor for about five minutes. But once you really start to get into a game like that - you realize that the analog stick (hell, normal buttons) can't be replaced by something like a touch-screen...

I'm not saying that there won't be a handful of games that make good use of the unique features - but so far, it's a 'half-way Gameboy' with a map screen (with most games). And when they do add touch-screen capabilities - it's simply a gimmick (see: 'Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow').

A prime example of a full-blown 'DS Gimmick' game - will be 'Final Fantasy 3'. I'm dying to know why I couldn't buy this game for my GBA. If I had to guess? Statscreen...

Yes, the 2D 'Metroid' games will always be better than the 3D games. Just as the 2D versions of 'Castlevania' are better than the 3D. That's simply how the universe works - in that regard.

Hope that clears some things up for you, citizen.

It is official: Metroid Hunters is going online.

http://metroidhunters.com/index2.html

I am glad they delayed the game to add this feature. I would be more disappointed if the game came out without online multiplayer because it would have meant that the sequel would feature this and that would take even longer to come out. Until then there will be plenty of good games to play.

I hear you. Given how well the Metroid First Hunt demo worked it raised everyone's expectations for the full game. Now that it will be going online, those expectations are raised even higher. I hope the full game delivers and leads to more FPS games for the Nintendo DS. I would love to see ports of the original Goldeneye, Quake 2 and Aliens vs Predator.

By the way, to those of you who have hijacked this thread to argue over who is the fanboy, nobody cares. I suggest you give each other your emails and take this silly argument outside.

you guys do realize that you sound like a bunch of 14 year olds in a pissing contest, right? it would be funny if it wasn't so sad...

I mean really.

In any event, I'm holding out on a DS until I can hear some reviews on mariokart... being able to do some wireless multi-player is what makes it for me...

i dont know how much the rest of the world knows about Mario Kart, but in the Nintendo Official Magazine here in the UK there was an interview with some guy working on Mario Kart DS. the most important thing he said was that it would have "over 30 courses". most of the tracks will be brand spanking new and my guess is unlockable cups will have the old levels.

Considering that Double Dash had 16 tracks, and F-Zero GX had 26... and MKDS is gonna have 30+ is quite impressive.

There were also some comments about Nintendo's Wi-Fi service but i forgot what it said :D
