So I want to make to a small database and be able to quickly gather summary information from it. I.E. - Enter a movie title as the master record, then be able to enter in sub information like release day, genre, ticket cost, maybe the top billed five actors, director, writer, theater I saw it in, etc. The I would like to be able to view a nurmical list in order from when I saw it, or just see which ones were written by the same guy, or that all had a budget more then $100 million or something. Would LOVE if it could break out a graph for top three most common director or something, etc.

I have no idea if any database software for iPad can do this, or which one, or if I'm even using the correct term. It doesn't have to handle real large sets, probably no more then 200 to 500 titles at a time.

Anyone know if this is possible or which app can do it? Easier the better, but most iPad apps are actually pretty great and easy to learn :)

Movies HD will do some of what you want but it is for movies only.

I use Tap Forms HD to accomplish something similar tracking books I read. No graphing as far as I can figure.

Thats actually ok as i'll only be tracking movies... i wouldn't mind auto filling from IMDB either or something as long as I can add info or correct it if needed.

Am I able to add what ever data fields I want and then sort of find how many are repeated? I don't want to just list title and when I saw it (IMDB's lists can (and already am) do that). What I want is to be able to quickly pull up the app and select Steve Spielberg and see that I saw three movies this year that he wrote or directed or something, etc. Or select "3D" and see that a total of 12 movies out of all I saw were in 3D.

Does anyone know if FileMaker or Bento can do this stuff? They look awesomely powerful but I'm not sure if they just tie into big corporate stuff or would have the simple customizations that I would need to add my movies and about 10 extra parameters (director, etc) to each and then be able to search it...

Both TapForms and Bento will allow you to create custom databases with all the fields you wish. I use TapForms and love it. You can import a CSV file to create a form. They also just released a Mac version.

Bento also has Mac and iOS versions and has good integration with Calendar and Address Book on the Mac.

Which do you think works better on the iPad and might be easier to learn/use? Does one have deeper or better reports then the other once the data is entered?

Does Bento backup to the cloud?
