I have a dent on the glass of my rMBP...

Like the title says, I have a dent on the glass of my rMBP... and Its really bothering me. I don't think the actual LCD is damaged, just the glass itself. How much do you think it will take to replace it?
 
I don't think glass really dents. It can crack, scratch, chip, or shatter. Pics?
 
Perhaps a stupid question but did you do it?

How long have you had it? Did you just notice?
 
Apple is the only company worldwide that has "Magic Glass".

Unlike other grades & types of glass that crack or break, Apples glass is designed to deform & dent. I know, several of mine have dents.

It impresses my friends & distorts the view of my work in such an entertaining way, that some of my friends at work have bought them.

If your kids play catch in the house, it's really handy. A fast ball struck my rMBP display and now it's even more fun to use. :D

I just realized it a couple of minutes ago while watching a video on Youtube. I could not notice it when I had my wallpaper as the galaxy/universe wallpaper because the little chip is on top of a star. When I have a light color as the background or browsing through MR, I can clearly see the chipped part.

I purchased it last month or so...

I know theres chipped glass repair for cars... is there such thing that will work for laptop glass displays? :(
 
Alright well if you are certain that it is a chip then take it in to Apple and explain what you just explained here. It won't cost you anything if you didn't cause the damage.

Thanks, will try that! I made a genius appointment tomorrow with my local apple store... Will post an update here!
 
I have a little nick in my screen (is this what you have?), too. It's not visible unless the screen is very dark or the exterior lighting hits the screen at certain angles. When it is visible, it looks like 2 or 3 dead pixels in a column.

It's annoying, but not serious. I heard that Vaseline could help change the optical reflectivity or something to better match the rest of the glass but I dunno. What are some ways to make this nick less noticeable?
 
You could try iFixit's solution which is to take a heatgun to remove the front glass and then use the display without that front glass or buy a new piece of front glass and glue it back in.

Just to add to this... if it's a chip or a "dent" on the display, it'll most likely (about 99.99%) deemed as a user error, and unless you are within the 14-day return period, they'll slash your pants off and burn your wallet as compensation for the repair...

...just kidding. Last I quoted with them, a new screen is $575, and that's basically saying that if you want to fix any damage to the top panel, be it shattered glass, scratched glass, scratched panel, dent, etc... then you have to replace the whole screen assembly.

The Retina display is an engineering marvel. Its LCD is essentially the entire display assembly. Rather than sandwich an LCD panel between a back case and a piece of glass in front, Apple used the aluminum case itself as the frame for the LCD panel and used the LCD as the front glass. They’ve managed to pack five times as many pixels as the last model in a display that’s actually a fraction of a millimeter thinner. And since there’s no front glass, glare is much less of an issue.

I have the same problem, the screen on my rMBP got scratched just a tiny bit.

If you want to have it fixed, you'll have to replace the entire screen, which in my country would cost me €988.

Edit: from what I've been told, it's most likely caused by something that got between the screen and the keyboard when I close the rMBP.
