I have to read a lot of pdfs that my professors send me but preview is intolerably slow to render and re-renders every time I scroll. Is there anything for leopard with better performance?

How much RAM does your Mac have? Is it maxed out? If you can add more RAM, do so, it will make the entire Mac feel faster.

Two alternatives I know of, maybe others know of more.

One is Skim, which also allows you to annotate PDF's like taking notes.

The other option is to download the last version of Adobe Reader that works with PowerPC Macs:

Personally I hate Adobe products, they've always seemed bloated and sluggish, I'd try Skim first.
