View Full Version : Copying over files, versus merging

New to OS X, from a Linux background.

In Linux, when I copy a folder over another folder with the same name, the contents are merged. That is, if one of the folders contains extra files, then those files are added / merged to the resulting folder.

Unless I'm mistaken, in Mountain Lion, when I do the same, the folder that is replacing the folder with the same name essentially removes extra content. (Not merging the two folders, but completely replaces the copied-over folder.)

Is this correct? And if so, then is there a way to merge two folders instead of replacing one of them?

To merge, do an option->drag

Drag? As in drag the folder directly onto the folder with the same name?
