I have a new 2012 MBP (2.9GHz, 16GB RAM, 1TB HDD) from which I have removed the Superdrive and replaced it with a 512GB SSD in an Optibay, which I use as a boot volume. Windows 8 (trial version) would not install on an 80GB Bootcamp partition while both internal SATA drives were connected, so I disconnected the HDD, and it installed and started-up fine. However, once I reconnected the HDD, I got a black screen with a flashing white cursor once through the EFI stage of booting. Having tried various bootrec.exe procedures from the Windows 8 USB, I reformatted and transferred a clone of Widows XP (from my 2008 MBP) to the NTFS partition. I'm now getting the same hanging black screen.

Any suggestions gratefully received.
