Hi everyone,
When I open mail on my Powerbook and leave it just sitting over night without closing the lid(the computer doesnt go to sleep it just shuts off the display), I go back to start it up, and the screen turns on but the beachball comes on a doesnt stop. I have a very large .Mac account and I have to use dial-up because there is no high speed where I am right now. Does anyone know why the Powerbook is doing this? Or something that I can try? Thanks

Alt+Command+Esc=ForceQuit. If the beachball is on too long, do that to end the program and then reopen it.
Hope that helps, I do that when Firefox lags up. It's the only program, so far, I've had any problem with.

Yes, but now the Powerbook is doing it even when there is nothing open, just the Finder. Any other suggestions?

I'm pretty sure this problem has to do with internet preferences. I use 10.3, if you use 10.4 then i'm not sure if this will work. Go to the "energy saver" preference pane and deselect "wake when modem detects a ring". This will enable your computer to go to sleep.
The computer might "think" it's asleep (when it's not) so when it tries to wakeup it gets stuck.
This also could be a hard drive issue, or equally an non-existant .mac account password keychain, needed to do an over night backup.
