View Full Version : podcasting wish

i'm really into my podcasts but i wish there was a way that i could restrict downloading of them to only when i am connected to specific networks.

i say this because i take my laptop to uni with me but at uni i only have a very small bandwidth allowance for an entire month and downloading a single podcast can take up to 20% of it. i know i could just close itunes but i also enjoy listening to music while i am at uni.

are there any other programs that allow for this functionality?

sounds like you'll have to control the podcast update yourself...instead of having it set to automatically do it for you. do you know about the podcast updating settings?

yeh, i didn't really want to do that though. for me the major plus of podcasting is the automatic downloading.

oh well

Hmm... Might there be a way to deny all network access to iTunes when on certain networks? Some UNIX command that can be input?

i'd still want the sharing music feature to work.

that is a good idea though, i'll get someone else to look into it for me :D

Since I still have dial-up, the lack of control over iTunes automatic downloading of podcasts was a real problem for me. But it looks like with itunes 5 (maybe 4.9? but I never noticed it), you can just cancel a download that starts when it shouldn't (by clicking the x in the display window where the download appears).
