Wow I haven't posted in a while!
Seems like i'v been busy but now im back, and with a problem. 😛
I got a new digi video camera (YEA I KNOW ITS GREAT), but now i want to burn vcd's out of my footage. I haven't the slightest idea on how to do this and i don't want anything fancy. If anyone could give me some insite it would help greatly.

P.S. I'm editing with iMovie and have a CD-RW

if you do a search for "vcd" on vt, there should be several packages that allow you to master a vcd. i have not tried them myself, but am interested, as i plan to make a few vcds in the future. all of them say that they require toast to burn the image, but i'm assuming that this can be done with disk utility as well. am i correct?

No you will need Toast to burn a VideoCD. The CD has to be in a specific format that disck utility is not capable of doing.

Basically, the easiest way to make a VCD is to use Toast. Toast will convert a movie into a VCD formatted CD and let you burn it.

mjpegtools, vcdimager & cdrtools or disc copy

You can create VCD/SVCD and DVD using
Free software on Mac OS X.

You will need:
mjpegtools http://mjpeg.sf.net/
vcdimager http://www.vcdimager.org/
and finally to burn
hdiutil, disc copy or cdrtools.

hdiutil and disc copy are included in Mac OS X.

I wrote the AltiVec optimizations to the MPEG2
encoder in mjpegtools. You can check out
the slightly out of date benchmarks at

If you get Toast there would be an option in iMovie to export to Toast VideoCD format, and then you could just drag that into Toast and burn away.
