Is there really enough to call this version 5?

Although I guest from 4.9 it was better to roll it over to 5.0 instead of 4.10.

I think the new interface typically justifies a major number change, though, I too felt like the new features were a little more scarce than they should have been. Perhaps if Podcasts had showed up in this update as well, we'd have a real good v5.0. Not that this is bad, but in 5 minutes, I was already done with the new features, and am back to normal usage. I'm also a little disappointed the Volume slider moved to the right of the command buttons.

I was hoping for some more dramatic improvements (http://www.itunesregistry.com/articles/smart/).

Show / Hide Search bar, Art work etc should never go into the Edit menu.

Apple should have created a View menu.

Another step towards crap GUIs for Apple.

The interface look is so much better than brushed metal. V5 looks so much better than previous.

Yeah that does suck I mostly use iTunes in the minimized mode and the slider is under the buttons there still...

It's the GUI equivilent of gouging your eyes out with a spoon. It's awful. And what makes it worse is that the best "new feature" they could come up with was the ability to download Harry Potter!

The Music Store is MUCH MUCH fuller than it was 2 days ago. Does anyone know why? Other than the much-trumpeted Madonna, I mean. Were new contracts with record companies recently signed?

I would rather have frequent small updates to iTunes instead of major overhauls every once in awhile. So, I am just glad 5.0 came out so soon.

I don't mind the look... but I don't think OS X NEEDS yet another look. Let's hope by Leopard they get it down to ONE white style and ONE metal style. (I do like having both.)

Why 5.0?

Simple theory: 4.9 was done, 5.0 came next.

Conspiracy theory:

* The nano and iT5.0 were intended for Apple Expo, alongside some updated Macs.

* The Macs will be late, so Steve made the call to cancelthe Expo keynote and instead roll all the music stuff together now, thus turning the ROKR event into something more.

* iT5.0 added nano support and was needed at the same time. But iT5.0 was only ALMOST done. Some things couldn't be ready in time.

* So some features have been disabled, making iT5.0 less than it could have been. Within weeks, iT5.1 will unlock the half-finished stuff.

* People will poke around in iT5.0 and find evidence of the disabled features shortly.

The simple theory is always more likely, but... what fun is that? :)
