I'm looking forward to 3 Oct, even if there is a limited supply of music on there. Presumably it'll be available in NZ too - even if there's not an NZ store, we should still be able to order from the Australian store (we can buy "downloads" like QuickTime Pro and iWork from the Australian Apple Store).

Sony is using it's virtual monopoly- it sells music AND makes the players- to bludgeon Apple into complying with its silliness. If the publc simply stopped buying Sony BMG for a few weeks, the artists would go nuts and put Sony on track! It is, however, unlikely that the music-buying public will show such self-restraint.... but if Sony BMG get a foot in the door with this, kiss goodbye to 'reasonaby' priced on-line music since all the other companies will jukp on board and become anti-Apple. Fickle indeed, they are!

You are aware that Apple launched a Japanese iTMS which doesn't include the Sony catalog, right? Apple managed to sell 1 million songs in just 4 days, and the artists which have contracts with Sony didn't like that... And now, Sony started negotiating with Apple... (and no, the record industry won't stand a chance against Apple, judging be the amazing figures announced by His Steveness on yesterday's special event. Mark my words.)
So, why doesn't Apple do the same in Australia? Just my €0,02
