What happened to the Dual 2.5

They replaced it for the dual 2.7GHz Power Mac G5 and introduced a dual 2.3GHz Power Mac G5. The reason is probably because the dual 2.3GHz does not require liquid cooling whereas the dual 2.5GHz does.
 
Thanks, i know it hadn't been being made for awhile, just wondered if there were problems with them or anything.

Nope. (At least not here.) Just not much point anymore to a 2.5 when they have 2.3 and 2.7.

according to barefeats.com the 2.3 is virtually as fast as the 2.5 but requires no liquid cooling. unfortunately the pricing structure doesn't really reflect the simpler cooling system. that means i wish the 2.3 was ~300 dollar less expensive 🙁 o.k. i thing the powermacs are good machines but since the design is well established the whole line imho is overpriced.
i haven't heard of anybody complaining about a problem with the 2.5. like constant noise or so.
 
I have gotten used to the constant noise from my Power Mac G4. So noise isn't any problem at all, whatever works best. I do realize that those into music noise is a problem.
 
Well, if youre looking for a good deal, you can find brand new, unopened dual 2.5's on eBay with Tiger for $2300....or $200 cheaper than a new dual 2.3. 😀 Only "downsides" are as follows:
1) 8X -R only Superdrive instead of the 16X +-R and DL Superdrive
2) 160GB HD instead of the new 250GB

I purchased the dual 2.5 on eBay for $2300 because i had a 300GB SATA drive and a 16X dual layer DVD burner that i was using from my old XP machine.

As far as problems, there have been ZERO with my dual 2.5. I absolutely love it. Buy yourself one if you can live with the slightly smaller HD space and spend the extra cash on some more RAM!
