Anyway, yes -- the original Mac bonged. The chord was introduced, I'm almost certain, with the Mac II.

I've always liked the Quadra LC475 startup sound. I wouldn't call it a "bong" though. It's a full, rich open chord, open with the 3rd in the bass. The PowerMac's startup (if I recall), always reminded me of the Carpenter's "Close To You". :)

This could be me crossing wires, but I seem to recall that Brian Eno had a hand in the Mac "Bong". Anyone else remember this?

I always liked the startup sound. Though I don't think there's an onomatopoeic word that describes it accurately - certainly not "bong". :rolleyes:

as i've said before, the PowerMac 6100/66 is my favorite startup sound, a guitar-twang version of the chord. They're all great in their unique ways. Until, of course, Apple decided to make them all the same...

I'm pretty sure it's in C major and is a first-inversion tonic chord, with the bass played by a pan-flute, and the top three done.. something else.



Then again, I just jumped on the piani and I was totally wrong. but I DID READ that somewhere. :p

on a side note, G5 user for over a year now (and Mac) and ive never heard a Crash Noise HAHAHAHA. now my pc....totally diff. story. Funny I had to visit a site that had sound bits up so i could hear what a Mac crash noise feels like.
