View Full Version : Dumb question: what IS Roxio Toast?

And specifically what is this Roxio Toast 5 I just happened to buy for 10 bucks? Do I need it for anything? Do I need Toast 6 or 7 for DVD burning on a new superdrive to be dropped into a Tibook? I don't get it. What the heck is it and why do I need Toast? Sorry so dumb!

Toast is for burning optical media (CDs, DVDs).

I don't know if v5 support burning to DVD, but I assume it does.

Also, Roxio's site will only stingingly provide updaters for registered users WITH serial numbers... not a hassle for me but has proved problematic at work.

I don't know if you're a switcher, but if you are, you probably know about Nero and Roxio Easy CD Creator on the PC. Toast is like those. You don't need it to burn CDs and DVDs, but it has some nice features and gives you greater control than burning with OS X's built in tools.

Oh, now I understand. It enhances Mac OS features for burning stuff. Thanks, but I'm sure I'll be asking more ???s when I actually take it out and try to use it...!

I am using the latest version of Toast 5 Titanium under 10.4.2. Works fine, but then again, I use it to mostly make disk images of games to play on the road... (Apple, Disk Utility should be able to do that!)

And Blue Velvet, if you enter the serial number on one copy you can then distribute it throughout the network. I transfered Toast from my iMac to my PowerBook, expecting to need to find the key, but I didn't need to.

My question is, "What is better than Roxio Toast?" I was really impressed with the V.5 releases, enough to buy V.6 - which has been nothing but crash-prone, buggy, and poor at burning DVDs for me.

Dad bought 7 online with a download a week before released on cd. It is really nice. Definitely worth buying.
