View Full Version : Looking for a Case for a 15 in Powerbook

Hi,

I'm looking for a sleeve for my 15" powerbook. I like the vyper http://www.booqbags.com/Detail.bok?no=96 but unfortunately it doesn't have a handle or a pouch for my papers. It also wouldn't fit the charger. I also like the slim http://www.acmemade.com/theslim.html which even has a shoulder strap, but I'm not sure how protective it is.

What I need the case for is one of two things:

1. To throw it in my back-pack and not worry about the powerbook being scratched or crushed! That's how protective I want the sleeve to be.

2. To sometimes be able to take it with me, with a notepad (and if possible, the charger!), and go to the coffee shop to work there. That's why I'd like it to at least have a handle, a pouche for the papers, and, if possible
enough place for the charger. If it also has a shoulder strap, that would be just perfect!!

Any suggestions?

Thanks to everybody, in advance!!! You've already helped me make the switch to mac (I'm getting the 15" 1.67 2 GB 100 GB Superdrive.. woo hoo!!)

If you're throwing it in a backpack anyway, do you REALLY need handles and a place for a charger? I think the booq bag you picked out is pretty sweet. :)

If you want a protective little thing for your charger, go to walmart, get 1/4 yard of fabric, some scissors and some velcro. badabing, badaboom, it's all good. :)

Target, which is LOVE
has some pretty awesome cases. I got mine from there.

this case (http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html/ref=br_1_5/602-6490597-9375010?%5Fencoding=UTF8&frombrowse=1&asin=B0001X4W6E) is sort of like the acme, without the acme price tag. :)

also this one (http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html/ref=br_1_9/602-6490597-9375010?%5Fencoding=UTF8&frombrowse=1&asin=B0002XR9EU)
Target also has a flip-over version of it, which I have. It's soooo cute! I always get compliment on it when I'm carrying it around, and even more when they see the SWEET computer that's inside! :)

Target is your friend. :D

Well.. When I go to the coffee shop, I like to just take the powerbook (along with the notepad and maybe the charger), without the backpack (which usually has lots of stuff that I don't remove from there out of lazyness :) and so wouldn't want to carry to the coffee shop)

Thanks for the suggestions! I'll go look at them in Target tomorrow! :)

Ah.. Get a european satchel (read: man-purse) and put the charger in it. :)

I can get away with a case barely larger than my PB because I carry an obnoxiously large purse, so that's where my charger goes...

and are you gonna be at the starbucks for more than 4 hours? mleehh... The battery life on 15" PBs are pretty sweet... just remember to dim the screen, turn down the speakers, reduced processor mode, turn off BT unless you need it-- general battery-saving-freak stuff :)

I totally recommend the TimBuk2 Sleeve (Click Here)!!! (http://www.timbuk2.com/tb2/catalog/productlisting.t2?priceSizeId=56&skuSetIdStr=74&categoryId=35) I got the medium size in orange, and I love it! It protects the Powerbook so well!!!! I've had the Booq Vyper, The Crumpler School Hymn, and the MacCase and in my opinion, none of them can even compare to the sleeve I got from TimBuk2!!!

I'm really happy with the Waterfields Designs sleevecase (http://www.sfbags.com/products/sleevecases/sleevecases.htm) I got. Fits in my Dickies messenger bag perfectly, so I get red stripe on black indie cred and I can still protect my PowerBook effectively.

Wow! It looks real cool.. And seems to fit exactly what I'm looking for:

1. Can use it without the strap or the piggy bag, if I want to throw it in my backpack

2. Can strap it around my shoulder and go to the coffee shop, if I'm not taking anything else

3. Can add the piggy bag and put my papers (and the charger, if I discover I'm running low!), etc, and go to the coffee shop/meeting/whatever!

And you say it protects the laptop pretty well, huh??!! What does the material feel like? Is it rather solid or like a cloth?? I'm guessing the former..
Does it really have enough padding? It doesn't look like it in the picture!

Please let me know..

In any case, thanks for the suggestion! I like it!!!! I think I found THE ONE!

I use the Booq PowerSleeve (link here (http://www.booqbags.com/Detail.bok?no=19)). I didn't see it mentioned in the initial post, so I wasn't sure if you had looked at it or not.
It has a handle as well as a strap to carry it independently. It fits fairly wells into another bag without the strap.
Also, it has an extra front pocket for the power adapter as well as a zippered back pouch for a folder/magazine.

Check it out - good luck!

i finally decided to go with the sportfolio sleeve for PB15", from marware,
http://www.marware.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/Marware.woa/1/wa/selectedCategory?catalogCatID=124&wosid=rWsT4xy77MUaesUyaLwadg
and the arctic iskin for my 60GB iPod.
http://www.iskin.com/store/images3/evo2/Arctic.jpg

although i liked the waterfields sleeve case when i looked at the website,
i was able to see the sportfolio in person at a store and i asked a couple of
friends who've had it for a while now. it looked very protective (and they
confirmed that) and hugs the PB 15". it's actually made for the PB 15", but
also fits the iBook 14", not the other way around. it also has plastic
inserts on both sides, in addition to the neuprene padding, and has padded
edges. i kind'a liked the hard plastic inserts.. they give me peace of mind..
my friends said they were happy with it. oh, and it is precisely what i was
looking for: a sleeve that also has a detachable strap, and a few pockets for
my papers. and if i ever forget to charge my battery, i can throw the charger in the zippered pocket. i liked it when i checked it out at the store, and so
i'm getting it. (and did i mention it is considerably less expensive than the
waterfields sleevecase, since for my purposes i would've had to get the flap,
strap, and piggy pack, which would be $99, shipping and tax included)

as for the iskin, i heard it is pretty good, pretty practical (you can use your
iPod without taking it out), and i liked it when i looked at it in the store..

Timbuk2 offers several different options...

I also have one of their messenger bags - I recommend them to everyone.

The Brenthaven cases have a sleeve that you can remove. I love mine. The rest of it is a little bulky, but the sleeve works great for being able to take it places and you don't want to look like a total nerd.

The Timbuk2s are nice, but expensive!

I just got a Targus CityGear Miami messenger bag. Has more than enough room for my 15" PB and various accessories. Plus, it's $38 bucks from Amazon. (Or $8 if you do what I did and apply for the Amazon Visa to save $30 off your first purchase). It's a very nice bag, and for what ended up costing me 8 bucks, I'm certainly not going to complain.

got the sportfolio.. it's wonderful. very protective, and hugs my pb nicely.
and it has everything i wanted: extremely thin, so that i can throw it in the backpack and go.. has a handle, so i can go around with it if i want to. has pockets for papers, both inside and outside, and a zipper pocket too, on the outside. all are very thin, and don't make the sleeve look fat (unless you stuff them with papers, of course :) ). it has a strap that you can attach or remove. in short: got all i needed.

it's really nice. very thin, and the hard parts that surround your pb are nice to have.
i really like it a LOT!
