I am running an early 2011 15" MBP and I tried to install Windows 7 on the bootcamp partition. It came up with an error during the early stages of the setup stating that there were missing drivers. I decided to remove my bootcamp partition and install Windows at the later date. When I used Bootcamp assistant to remove the bootcamp partition, after removing, it came up with an error saying the partition couldn't be removed. Now when I check disk utility, I see a 150GB partition where the boot camp partition used to be and it is unmodifiable and will be left as free space.

How do I modify this locked partition and get the free space back into my OS X partition? Should I use the Recovery HD partition to delete the entire hard drive, after backing up everything with time machine, then reinstall OS X with Recovery HD?
