My G5 Xserve has turned into a hippie, I'm surprised it hasn't packed its bags and left for the big commune in the sky yet.

Seriously, though, pardon my ignorance but does the G5 Xserve have a battery, or is there something else going on? It's randomly resetting the date and time to the 1970s, it will hold correct time for a while maybe a month or so, but eventually it will decide it wants to go and live in the 1970s.

Seems like it, I did a quick Google and it appears that the PMU battery is located near the back of the board close to the I/O ports and Ethernet. I should probably change this out before the battery disintegrates and corrodes the logic board.

Aye, that's the system battery that has died. Pop in a new one and you'll be fine.

I'm guessing its a 3.6v 1/2 AA battery Such as this?

Yeah. But be careful. This site does not use HTTPS/SSL for the registration/login functions (i.e. no safe shopping).

I found another shop (which uses HTTPS/SSL):
http://www.epowermac.com.au/Shop/pc/NewerTech-3-6V-Lithium-1-2-AA-PRAM-Battery-p932.htm

They use the strongest version of the SSL certificates: The Extended Validation SSL Certificates (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extended_Validation_Certificate).
