Long version: I wanted to wipe the hard drive in my Power Mac G3, so I booted from the install disk and wiped it. Next, I wanted to turn the computer off, but when I quit the installer it just kept restarting and booting from the disk. I tried ejecting the disk by holding down the mouse button, but this did not work. The computer refused to do anything but restart into the installer, so I pressed the power button to do a hard shutdown. The computer didn't respond at all to this, so I unplugged it from the wall. When I plugged it back in, it just started up. I didn't even press the power button, it just started up into the installer. Holding down the power button still did nothing, so I unplugged it again. This time, it didn't start up without pressing the power button. When I did press the power button, nothing happened. Absolutely nothing. No chime, no fans, no hard drive noises. Nothing.

Short version: I unplugged my Power Mac G3 from the wall while it was running, and now it won't turn on. No chime, no fans, no hard drive noises.

Any way to fix this?

Any way to fix this?

Is this a Blue and White (B&W) G3, or a beige tower G3?

If it's a B&W, look for a battery that is approximately the size of an AA cut in half. Find it and pull it out, then hit the power button without the tower plugged in. Afterwards, plug in the tower, then the battery, and hit the power button again. See if this helps.

The tower, by rights, can be started without the battery in place, you just lose the ability to keep time.

It's a B&W, so I'll definitely try that.

It boots again! Yes! All it took was a PMU reset. Unfortunately, it refused to do anything but boot into the installer. So I just decided to install the OS. Seemed like the only solution. It's worth it to have this machine running smoothly again. Thanks for your help.
