Pretty much the state of things since 2000: http://www.sfgate.com/columnists/morford/

They rotate his column weekly, so this time next week the link above will point to a new column.

Enjoy the read - Starting this thread right in Politics so it won't need to be moved in 3 posts...

Enjoyed that immensely.

Harold MacMillan (British Prime Minister 1957-1963) was once asked what had tested him the most in office.

"Events, dear boy, events", he replied. ;)

for once someone is talking about this administration's true motivation: love of the photo-op.

Do you think they recognize that BushCo isn't really spending a dime on Katrina relief, that the $52 billion they just crammed through Congress without any discussion isn't actually going toward repairs and rebuilding at all?

You think people sense that all of it, every single dime, is going toward -- you guessed it -- PR? Spin control? You know it's true. Every government truck and every National Guardsman and every aid package and every miserable FEMA agent you see is merely in place to try and shore up Bush's miserable poll numbers, his dwindling support. Hell, it's the only reason Bush -- or his party -- does anything for the "good" of the nation.

You know what's funny? I've heard some neocons try to say that liberals are happy that people are pissed at Bush about Katrina. Completely neglecting the fact that the fed and local gov screwed this up and everybody is still blaming everybody else giving people reason to be pissed... doesn't everyone kinda wish the gov had done a good job with this? Isn't that why we dislike him, because he and his cronies keep screwing this stuff up?
