Not sure if this is a typo or what, but this link:

http://www.consumers4choice.org/site/PageServer

States that the winner of the contest will win a video iPod on November 9th.
Any thoughts?

Assuming this is a serious question: there is always a motivation... whether it is collecting email addresses for spamming, sucking people into providing reams of free video content for a website, or something more nefarious.

I always suspect outfits that have vague, motherhood-and-apple-pie names like "Consumers for Cable Choice" "Committe for Fair Taxation" and "Ministry of Peace" -- I fear the innocuous name hides a specific agenda.

Yes, I'm quite sure it's real.

That Apple is telling everyone about the Video iPod, but the consumers.

It's a conspiracy I tell ya...

Sorry...this isn't spam at all...seriously. There's no email addy collection or anything. I was just looking at the site more closely myself and found this in the "Official Contest Rules"

17. Prizes: One prize will be given for the winning entry. The Grand Prize is one (1) Apple Video iPod (Approximate Retail Value ("ARV") is $800). No prize substitution or cash redemption allowed by winner(s). Prize(s) are not transferable. Taxes are the sole responsibility of each winner. Sponsor reserves the right to substitute prize with similar prize of equal or greater value due to prize unavailability. If Apple does not release a Video iPod for retail purchase by December 31, 2005 at 11:59 PM EST, the winner will receive a non-negotiable prize of Creative Technologies’ Zen Vision Portable media player (ARV is $399.99).

Note the 800 dollar price tag of a possible Apple Player...it sounds like the contest runners don't even know if Apple will release one!
It's sad when the rumors reach a point that contests become based around mythological prizes. I highly doubt these "Consumers for Cable Choice" know anything we don't. I just found it interesting. I didn't mean to be submitting more of the same rumor...just found a new possible source.
Thanks

Need to note this other quite important part of the Rules:

"If Apple does not release a Video iPod for retail purchase by December 31, 2005 at 11:59 PM EST, the winner will receive a non-negotiable prize of Creative Technologies’ Zen Vision Portable media player (ARV is $399.99). "

Sounds like they're just betting Apple will release one that they could use as a prize, since an iPod would likely generate a bit more interest.

That's really odd.

I've never heard of a company/group giving away something that doesn't exist. Why not just give away that Creative player?

"Winner will receive a hydrogen powered Pinto by Ford. If Ford doesn't release a hydrogen Pinto by November 1, winner will get a Ford Focus."
