Computer to Computer Questions

Hi, I've never even played around with the airport in my ibook with regards to creating a network or even logging onto someone else's network. What can be done with that? Can I set up a wireless network under my name or something? Also, when I'm around town and I see someone has started a computer to computer network, what can I do with this? Can I hook up on the internet or anything useful? I'm totally oblivious to what is possible with this. Thanks for any help.

A computer-to-computer network, also known as an ad-hoc network, simply allows two computers to communicate with each other. It offers no additional connections, such as the Internet.

You'll need to connect to an access point, also known as infrastructure, to connect to the Internet.
