This another one of my threads where I point out the obvious...

You know how CDs and DVDs that you burn are have the +/- R or +/RW at the end. R meaning write and RW meaning rewrite.

How come CD-Rs aren't called CD-Ws (since write is not spelled with a r)?

R is for recordable, not readable.

hmm...then why do they say re-writeable as opposed to re-recordable. wait, teh w in rw does stand for writeable, doesnt it?
