Since this is the PowerPC Macs sub-forum, I assume, you have a PPC Mac (G4 or G5), thus use "Apple Partition Map" instead of "GUID" in the following tutorial.
How to format a new HDD to install Mac OS X onto (or make a bootable copy onto) (http://forums.macrumors.com/showpost.php?p=12483448&postcount=22)
After you successfully formatted the SSD, you can use CarbonCopyCloner (http://www.bombich.com) or SuperDuper! (http://www.shirt-pocket.com/SuperDuper/SuperDuperDescription.html) (you might have to look here (http://mac.oldapps.com/) for PPC and Mac OS X 10.4 or 10.5 compatible versions) to clone the HDD's contents to the SSD and then boot from the SSD via System Preferences > Startup Disk.
PS: "driver (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Device_driver)" is not the same as "drive (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disk_drive)".
