i think apple should make a computer with imac insides that is sold without a monitor... like a very small cubish tower-esque thing. considering they could knock about $300 off the price of the imac if it had no monitor, they would have a very low cost consumer machine with a whole lot to offer. a $999 computer with geforce2, 24X CDRW , a G4, and a 40 gig hard drive is an excellent deal, even in the cheapo world of pcs....

but would that take away sales of the imac? is that a concern?

How about a monitor upgrade?

I suspect that after faster professional machines are out, we'll get a 17" monitor option on that iMac, but I think it's unlikely that Apple will produce a monitor-less unit (essentially re-introducing the cube).

But, hey? What's stopping somebody from removing the 15" monitor and attempting to hack the system to support higher resolutions on an external monitor?
