Hi,

I was wondering if it was possible to use the Mac OS X 10.8 software CD that came with my new MacBook pro to update my 1 1/2 year-old iMac, which currently runs 10.6. That's really all there is to it.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you in Advance

Wout

Gray disc? If so then no, you cannot use it.

No Mac coming with Mac OS X 10.7 Lion or OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion has physical restore media included.

OS X: About OS X Recovery (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4718)

If you want to make a bootable installation medium, you can follow these steps:
Lion DiskMaker (http://blog.gete.net/lion-diskmaker-us/)

Create bootable installation medium for Mac OS X 10.7 Lion (http://www.macrumors.com/2011/07/18/make-an-os-x-lion-boot-disc/)
Create bootable installation medium for OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion (http://arstechnica.com/apple/2012/07/how-to-create-a-bootable-backup-mountain-lion-install-disk/)

And if they were coming with grey Restore DVDs, they would only work on the Mac model they came with, thus you could not use them anyway. I guess you need to pay the 19 USD for OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion afterall.
