hi all,

got me my maxtor onetouch hard drive......i dont want to use dantz retrospect express and am looking to other apps to back up my files/folders. basically, ive heard good things about carbon copy cloner (plus it is free:D).

i want to know whether this program can only be used to back up your entire HD, or certail files and folders (which to be honest will work better for me.)

is it worth it? do you reccommend it? or instead shall i cave and pay for a .mac iDisk?

Get Superduper; it's free for plain backups. You pay if you want to do incremental ones or safety clones. It's excellent - talks you through exactly what it's about to do and works perfectly. I've been able to restore from it without problem. It's so excellent that even though I only use the plain backup; I've paid anyhow ;)

In CCC you can select which items you want to backup to your external HD, although I always just make a bootable backup. You could also use SuerDuper as Applespider said. I've used both and stuck with CCC because it was more simplistic and I was more familiar with it. Your choice though.

I clone my system hard-drive every 3 months or so with CCC and do an automated 'Home' folder backup nightly with Silverkeeper (also free).
