iTunes will not burn an audio cd on my iMac G5 rev. B. I can burn a data cd from the Finder in Tiger 10.4, but iTunes will give me one of two error messages when burning an audio cd:

"laser power level failed to calibrate to the media" or
"medium write error"

I have repaired permissions, deleted iTunes preferences, tried every burn speed, iTunes is set to audio cd burning, and I tried to use a new user account. The cds are Sony, and I have used them in the past, plus they work with Finder burning. I can also burn DVD's. Anyone have any ideas to fix this.

Yeah, not sure if it'll help, but are these songs purchased from iTMS? What bit rate are they?

Some are from iTMS, one is an mp3 128 kbps, the rest are AAC 128 kbps.

Yeah, sorry, I've got nothing. Maybe try giving Apple a quick call or something. This is strange. 😕

I've got the same problem. Have trouble burning via iTunes and Toast. Haven't tried since I upgraded to Tiger because I rarely burn anything. Nonetheless, I believe my applecare expires in December so I plan on getting to the bottom of this before then.

Check Itunes > Preferences > Burning

Check Itunes > Preferences > Burning

Select "Audio CD"
For some reason it's defaulted to "Data Disc" since I upgraded my imacs 😀
