Bought a 1GHZ DP QS machine due to the problems with the
Mirrored Door (MD) machines (vacuum like noise, IDE controller
issues with OS 9 and X, memory at about twice the price
of PC133, and no appreciable SPEED bump). I also didn't
like the decorative "holes" on the new towers. My previous
machine was a PM 7300 with a 400 MHZ G3 and a ATI VR 128
card. Sold it on eBay. So my new machine only cost me about
1900.

Yep. Replaced my iMac DV SE with a not so top of the line 800 MHz powerbook G4. I've never been happier. Gave my old computer to my GF.

If you compare this poll's results with the one from a while ago asking how often you buy a new Mac (the average was around 3 years I think), there's a very high number of people who bought this year. That is, if on average people bought new machines every three years, you'd expect this poll to have about 33% yes and 66% no. The difference is theoretically all kinds of people buying their first Macs this year! Yay!

Yes, I know these polls are far from scientific. Just leave me to my delusions, please. Thanks so much. ;)

I need a new machine, but I can't see getting one that doesn't have an order of magnitude or more of power than my current one. So I'm waiting, and waiting - I think it will happen in 2003 :D

I very nearly bought an iMac after the 17" models were announced, but I've held off. Fortunately, I AM buying a new Mac after MWSF, with either an iBook or iMac purchase.

This year was an expensive Mac year for me. Here's the breakdown:

- February: bought 17" Apple LCD to connect to my G4

- March: replaced wife's grape iMac 333 with a 15" G4 iMac with superdrive (wish I had waited for the 17"), sold old iMac on ebay

- April: bought wife new 600 MHz iBook when Circuit City stopped carrying Apple products, at $700 new a great deal

- May: bought iPod

- August: replaced my G4 733 with DP G4 1 GHz MDD

- October: bought used G4 Cube on ebay to use as a jukebox of sorts, came with a 15" Apple LCD

- November: due to additional work travel, sold DP G4 1 GHz on ebay and bought PowerBook G4 867 MHz

And then there are the accessories, the Jaguar upgrades, and the .Mac account.

I got mine last Friday (11/29) at the South Coast Plaza Apple Store in CA. I have to go back to get the extra 512 megs of ram installed. The tibook is replacing the Lombarg g3 that I sold last year.

My impressions:

1. Screen is perfect...no dead pixels here. =)
2. Had an intitial problem of cds not mounting and being spit out of the super drive. Problem went away after the fifth disc I put in.
3. Wireless reception is horrible. The connection drops out after 15 feet away from my netgear mr314 router. A real bummer. I tried a tip that some posted regarding taking the battery out and applying pressure alonng the side of the case. Didn't help me at all.
4. VPC 5.0.4 under OSX. Windows 2000 runs acceptable with 256 megs allocated to it. Should improve with more ram.
5. Jedi Knight 2 runs great at 800 by 600 with all graphic options at full tilt.

So Far all has been just peachy for me!

Yes, I got the demo of the PowerBook G4 from the Apple Store at Fashion Island, Newport Beach. I got it on Friday. Specs: 800mhz G4 processor, 40gb hd, 512mb, Airport card...This thing is in almost perfect condition! I couldn't believe it!! I got a good deal on it too, $2000. Well, thanks grandma ;) FYI this is my first Mac.

B&W G3/400 to a 1GHz Tibook. Hoping for a HUGE improvement on speed. B&W G3 can still do everything i want it to, except burn dvd's, but the tibook will fix that :)

Yep, I bought the 800 MHz 15 in. iMac with SuperDrive when it came out - and I totally love this thing! It's yet another in a LONG string of Macs, dating back to 1985.

My parents got me a 5gig iPod and it was supposed to be here this week. Then she got an email saying it was backordered (macmall, not apple). I called her today cause I saw a 10% off sale at Dell.com. So she called up macmall, cancelled the 5gb iPod order, and bought a 10gig iPod from dell for only $360 and no shipping. Reformat it to HFS+ and I got a sweet deal. Woohoo I can't wait to come home from school for winter break and play with it!!!!

I just ordered two 17" iMacs yesterday...Can't wait til they arrive.

One is to replace a MicroSucks Windblows98 computer, the other to allow me to stop crouching over my TiBook. Been having neck and back problems for several months because the TiBook has been my primary computer. I use it about 6-8 hours a day, too long to be in the same position.

Here is what you need to do to convert it to a Mac only iPod.

http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=13087

It will work fine without the reformat though.
