Shut Off Facebook Chat?

I'm so tired of people seeing me as being logged on to facebook when I am on my phone and not home.

I have deleted the fb chat app and disabled chat in the facebook app but I have one friend who still sees me online and sending me messages that come through to my phone as push notifications.

Any idea how I can finally fix this?

do you mean the iPhone icon showing you on chat next to your name?

If so, it is do with the Facebook messenger app, to remove the icon, just go the facebook messenger app, then go to icon in top right corner, then the settings icon, then turn notifications off.
