If you instant message a lot using AIM, MSN, Yahoo, GoogleTalk, or any combination of those, download Adium (http://www.adiumx.com/).

I use OnyX (http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/20070) so I can perform system maintenance at my convenience, instead of leaving my computer on overnight; MPlayer (http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/16623) to play the files QuickTime won't, mainly .avi and Windows Media files. LimeWire (http://www.limewire.com/english/content/home.shtml) is a great P2P program, and if you are interested in ripping or encoding DVDs, check out Handbrake (http://handbrake.m0k.org/) and Mac the Ripper (http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/22715).
