View Full Version : [iPad Mini] Ipad mini sleeve?

I've got a TPU case for mine which protects the back, however, when its packed away in my bag the front is still exposed.

I like using it as is and don't really need or want a Smart Cover. So on that note, has anyone seen an ipad mini specific sleeve?

I've seen a couple on eBay which are hand made, although feedback isn't great about them.

Cheers.

Good question. For mine I bought the Smart Cover and like you I was concerned about the back of the device so I bought a soft, padded case (on UK eBay - link here (http://stores.ebay.co.uk/CushCase/iPad-Mini-Cases-/_i.html?_fsub=3612582010)) that was supposed to fit a mini with Smart Cover, so seemed like the perfect solution. The case is ideal in concept, but the size (which they must have assumed and went ahead and fabricated a bunch of cases because they had the product available for sale day 1 when the mini was launched) is a bit tight when the mini is wearing its Smart Cover. The case is loosening a bit over time and it's easier to slide the mini in it, but it would have been nice to have a looser fitting case (as they advertised).

I ordered this and it's not a good product. It's very difficult to get the mini in there as its too tight. Hard to close zipper. A complete waste of money and I am returning it.

Check out Etsy. I found a great one for $20 that I absolutely love. (The iCarbons skin is no longer on my iPad.)

I use the SwitchEasy Cover Buddy (http://www.switcheasy.com/product/CoverBuddy_iPadmini) polycarbonate case to protect the back.

When it's tucked into my messenger back it's slid into a Timbuk2 Sleeve (http://www.timbuk2.com/tb2/products/envelope-sleeve-ipad-mini-and-kindle-fire/2343154).

I used this setup with my original iPad and it still looks new.

Waterfield all the way. These things are A-class for sure.

I have the simple slip case. They make them in a couple different sizes (bare mini, or smart covered mini). They are snug. Perfect for travel. And the inside is SUPER soft and actually cleans the iPad when as you push and pull it out.

Despite Radtech's suggestion that it's compatible with the Smart Cover, it really isn't. It was next to impossible to get it into the sleeve and I quit halfway - just wasn't going to happen.

I'm really glad you posted this. I was going to order one, but I use a CoverBuddy on the back and a Smart Cover and just wasn't sure if it would work. I'll stick with my sleeve from Etsy. Seriously, thanks for posting this. You just saved me $20.

I have the RadTech Sleevz for the iPad Mini, and although it takes a bit of doing, a bit of wrestling the first few times, it WILL indeed fit the Mini plus the Smart Cover. I doubt that it would fit with anything else on the back. The fit IS snug. The first time, I put the iPad Mini in there by itself, and that works very well. Next, I slowly maneuvered the Smart Cover in there and then had a small piece hanging out, but the basic thing was in there. Next I worked with inserting the Mini with the Smart Cover on -- it takes some doing but each time one does it, that helps to stretch out the fabric a bit and makes it a little easier. Actually, what I had been doing until the new iPad Mini-sized one arrived was to use my larger one that I have for the regular-sized iPad, slipping the Mini into it, folding it over at the top and sticking it into my bag. That works well for protecting the Mini while in a bag and also makes it pretty quick to remove/insert back into the Sleevz as needed. This way since Day One when leaving the house my Mini has had protection on the back. Once I get the smaller Sleevz stretched a bit, that will be the one which goes on the Mini when it leaves the house.

Instructions from the RadTech website:

To put on: Grasp the RadSleevz case at one of the ends, with your left thumb inside the cavity, and let the case hang vertically from your thumb. With your right hand, grasp your iPad in the center - back edge toward your palm. Drop the end of the reader into the dependent end of the RadSleevz. Pull the upper end of the RadSleevz (left hand) over the top edge of the reader, and pull on as far as possible. While still holding the iPad in the center, slide the bottom, then the top of the RadSleevz onto the device.

To remove: Grasp the iPad in the center. Pinch the bottom, center of the RadSleevz and slide straight off.

New user here... my husband and I run ReFleece, and y'all have been talking about our sleeves. Thanks for your kind words about our little company. To answer the questions: our sleeves are made for naked iPads OR to fit the Smart Cover. Same with the minis. They are made from used Patagonia jackets, cleaned, cut and pressed into recycled felt. Super lightweight, water resistant, and soft on the inside. And the colors are original, so no new dyes are used to make them. www.refleece.com. Thanks, and hope you like them!

Very well. When ordering you can specify if you want one with or without a Smart Cover as they are made to order. I got the one fit for a SC as I use it as keyboard stand all the time.

Thanks. I figured the charcoal would look good with my dark gray SC and black iPad mini and I was right. :) I have another gray sleeve I purchased on Etsy, but I think this one will get more use.

Just received the stm d7 jacket/sleeve today.

So far loving it. It has plenty of room for the mini with Smart Cover and switcheasy coverbuddy. Has room for an even thicker case too I think but it's not overly large. Has a couple small pockets and a shoulder strap if your into that.

Hazy... Totally missed your message about your sleeve but thanks anyway!

is ok quality imo. I'd rather support a handmade leather craftsman,
not one that sources their stuff to factories in china

You obviously have no idea what you're talking about. Their stuff is made in Mexico, and that's where it all started. It's handcrafted by the second best leather available and they give you 100 years warranty on it. I've never seen anybody do it better and I've really looked around.

So I finally took some time to take a couple of pictures of the new Refleece iPad sleeve.

I already have a similar sleeve but I was looking for something new that I could just put the iPad in when in transport. I like using my iPad semi naked (I protect it with powersupport front and a sticker boy back film) and I didn't want anything like a TPU case or other similar cases that would make the iPad mini bulky.

First impression is that the case is made of high quality and it is well thought out. I love the concept of using recycled material. I would have never guessed that the sleeve was once a jacket or other fleece material. It's very light, clean and simple. There is a small flap with a plastic snap. I really like this option compared to my other sleeve which uses a metal snap. I am confident that nothing on this sleeve will scratch my iPad.

The sleeve has a good snug fit. It is also designed to work with the smart cover so that is a plus. When the iPad is in the sleeve, it still does not add much bulk and it's easy to carry around and throw it in my bag for work or travel. I would not be worried if I dropped my iPad while in the sleeve. There is enough protection there that the iPad should no suffer any damage.

Overall I'm very happy with the sleeve and the price is much more affordable than other similar sleeves out there. I hope they start making something similar for the macbooks and iPhone.

I do not see an option for Smart Cover. I actually have a versa cover which is a thin back protection with a Smart Cover like front. Will your sleeves work with that? Do I need to put the information about Smart Cover size in the special instructions area while ordering?

I hope they start making something similar for the macbooks and iPhone.

really appreciate the review and pics! I am looking forward to getting my case today, just ordered one today. How long did shipping take for you? And also, do you think a smart cover on my mini would still fit in the Refleece case?

Nice sleeve. Would it fit the ipad mini WITH a keyboard attached to it?

The smart cover will definitely fit in the refleece case. They also advertise it as fitting the smart cover so there should be no problem there. The shipping to me took almost a week I think but it came from the east coast and I'm in CA.

Cool, thanks for the info! I'm in CA too, so guess I'll have to wait about a week. I had trouble deciding between charcoal/red and charcoal/deep blue, but after looking at your pictures again and again, I decided to go with red just because it really looks nice.

I have one last question, what is the material like on the inside where the screen is touching? I'm guessing its not microfiber, but just hoping that it's some kind of felt that won't scratch the ipad screen over time.

They call it a new kind of felt. It's recycled fleece. It's soft and I doubt it would scratch the iPad. It feels like it polishes my iPad every time I put it in and take it out. I think you made a good choice in the color. I love mine.

If it fits with the smart cover on it, is it still a snug fit with a naked mini? I just hope it doesn't wobble around in the case without any protection

I do not see an option for Smart Cover. I actually have a versa cover which is a thin back protection with a Smart Cover like front. Will your sleeves work with that? Do I need to put the information about Smart Cover size in the special instructions area while ordering?

My mini has a leather back skin from zagg and a pure screen protector. Fits refleece just fine.

It has minimal movement without the smart cover. with the cover, I'm sure it will be a nice snug fit.

The Mujjo cases for the iPad mini are pretty neat. The look very smart and they are a reasonable price:

For sleeves, I think Timbuk2 makes some nice ones. I own one for my Kindle touch. I know a standard case isn't what you're looking for, but thought I share this deal with you anyways. I just ordered a Dresuit (http://www.amazon.com/DreSuit-Rotating-Magnetic-rotation-Multiple/dp/B00CALICGQ/ref=cm_cr-mr-title?t=slickdeals&tag=slickdeals&ascsubtag=ShKmaKbDEeKB9BIP6jmopgyEV7_ojXW3_0_0_0)case off Amazon for 5.99 after finding a deal on Slickdeals (http://slickdeals.net/f/5967510-DreSuit-Yuppie-Series-Rotating-Case-for-iPad-Mini-5-99). Don't know if this would apply to ones living outside of the US.

Just got my Dodocase sleeve today and was blown away at the quality of this product. WOW. extremely well done. You can tell this is a hand made product and its worth every penny. Since getting it today the wife has already ordered one as well as a friend of hers. Highly recommended.
