Do any QuickSilver 2002 G4 CPU's work in a Cube?

I have a couple QuickSilver 2002's,
one has the dual 1GHz, the other has a 1.4 GHz Sonnet upgrade.

I was wondering if any of those CPUs would work in a Cube?

They would need a fan and maybe even down clocked, but are the sockets compatible?
Firmware issues?

Most likely not. Two factors are the size of the cpu and voltage it draws. Try searching in the forums at

Lots of answers there about using different processors in the cube. I do know that the dual processors from the sawtooth and the digital audio will work but it requires soldering on longer wires on a couple of capacitors that would be blocked by the block. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

Quicksilver CPU certainly won't fit. IDE connector will block it. You could get more luck with Sonnet 1.4, but this one would require modifying CPU heatsink. And most likely more powerful VRM, because Sonnet 1.4 AFAIR was 7455 one. Not talking about fan OFC.

Cubeowner is the right place to get more info, as Falstaff pointed.

Thanks for that link, the cube has not arrived just wanted to read ahead.

Quick search on that forum, it looks like the 1.4 is a Sonnet Encore/ST 1.4 with a purple heatsink. According to everymac its a 7455 G4.

but reading more his system was overheating later...

Oh well sounds like good way to spend a free day soon.
