It's getting a bit difficult to find GIF software these days as most people have moved on to PNG. First of all, give PNG a go, it's a good substitute in most cases.

However, sometimes you need to use GIF (IE on Windows!). Photoshop will export to GIF, and there must be some free apps that will do the same. I think the version of Preview that came with Jaguar could export to GIF, if you have some Jaguar CDs you might be able to extract it.

Version 1.0 of the MNG specification was released on January 31, 2001. MNG is currently not as widely supported as PNG. Nonetheless, Konqueror has native MNG support, and MNG plugins are available for Opera, Internet Explorer, and Mozilla Firefox. Mozilla (and hence Netscape) originally supported MNG, but native support for MNG was removed in version 1.5a and Mozilla has not supported the format since. Safari does not support MNG.

Animated PNGs are called MNGs.
Cool! at least I learn something new today. Hope to see some samples of MNG from any MR users here.
