Wow, where to start...

1. A hub is a layer 1 device, not layer 2. A switch is, however, a layer 2 device.
2. You don't need static arp entries if you are within the same broadcast domain (in his example, he is). Arp entries will be automatically populated via broadcast in his example. Why risk fat-fingering the MAC address when arp broadcasts do it for you automatically?
4. All three machines are addressed within the same subnet (192.168.1.0/24), so a router is not only not necessary but would not even be used if it was present. A router would just switch the traffic and not route it.

It was an entertaining read, just not in the way the author intended.
