Does anyone know what i need to do to get .avi files to work with quicktime? or is it not compatiable and i need a different player altogether?

thanks in advance.

avi is a container format, similar to mov being a container format. depending on what codec is used quicktime can play the avi straight off the bat. the most common codec that doesn't work in quicktime is divx, and you can download the codec from the divx site

What kind of avi? I have DivX 6, XviD, 3ivX installed to handle various types of avis.

i really have no clue, please talk to me like as if im 4yrs old.

You may want to try Hyplay. A free AVI player that support many other video formats (.asf, .asx, .wmv, .divx, .mpeg etc). Good luck!
