Greetings all have been a lurker here for awhile and finally took the plunge 2 days ago and bought a new 12" iBook. Love it so far, this forum helped sell me on the idea of getting it. Love the Display spanning hack that was talked about.

Now the question. If I change the balance on the sound all the way to the left I get a real high pitched version of what I am playing, if I change the balance all the way to the right I get a muffeled mid range version of what I am playing.

Is this a defect or did they mean to do it this way ?

The songs you are playing might tend to have their bassy stuff to one side.. Try other albums/artists/etc of music.. (You might've already).
Otherwise I see it as a defect.

Bookshop!
my friend had that happen to his home speakers. one of the speakers was shot. i agree with epepper9; play some music, if it isnt any different, a speaker is shot. They should replace it under warranty.
