How long does it usually take for apple to actually ship out a product after they have introduced it for sale?

Apple officially says that brand new products will ship anywhere from 3 to 6 weeks after they are introduced.

ouch!!!....I know this is a while from now, but I want to get the Powerbook that will be introduced in 2003, and I am asuming that it will be out in early May. But, the problem is that I always leave for vacation in mid July(for about 7weeks), and I would like to take it with me. Hopefully it will be introudeced in april.
