I have Snow Leopard (10.6.8) and I attempted to download Xcode but couldn't; so then I tried to upgrade to Mountain Lion but couldn't because my MacBook only has 1 GB of RAM.

I talked to support and was told that even if I do add RAM there's a possibility that I will still not be able to upgrade to Mountain Lion.

Anyone dealt with this before? Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Unlikely. Only the unibody late-2008 Macbook can support Mountain Lion.

Yep. You need a mac with aluminum enclosure of some kind.

There are, of course, unofficial work arounds that can get Mountain Lion on your mac, but you will suffer a performance degradation and will lose eligibility for Apple Technical support.
