Headline aside, what the article says is that this probably WON'T hurt Apple.

It will boost Real's subscription service (it needs it--subscriptions are not popular).

It terminates Microsoft's own efforts to get into the business.

That's about it.

For the millionth time, they don't have a player, jukebox, store combo.

Until then, Rob "Krispy Creme" Glaser is out of luck.

LOL! A bunch of visionless corporate hacks shaking hands and making nice is supposed to be a threat to the fantastic stuff that Apple is doing? As long as they keep that up, Apple has nothing to worry about.

Here's my impression of Glaser: "WAAAAA!! Apple wouldn't play with us so we went and told Bill Gates. So there. NYAH!!"

If they spent this much energy coming up with good ideas of their own instead of trying to gang-hump the iTunes music store, they might not spend so much time whining in public.

How un-freaking-believably sad.

My first thought was, wait, Real Networks & Rob Glaser are still around? ( No one cares! ) My next thought, no way Real can afford to sell (rent?) nothing at a loss, if I were Glaser, I'd take the cash & run! That's more than they will ever earn...
When they were the only streaming media company, the net was young, it was cool.....but what happened to all the internet companies?

Oh well, maybe Real & MS can split the losses among the other 700 companies fighting to lose more money for record execs - there is no money in it, unless you sell iPods!!

They deserve eachother, and I think the quality of the companies product, attitude, and skill are reflected in their sucess selling rental music....who cares... but MS has written a LOT of checks lately....LOL
