I take lecture notes on my Macbook, and usually when I study I print out all my notes and highlight/write on them. That's a huge waste of paper, so I downloaded Notability for my iPad so that I would highlight/annotate my notes electronically instead. When I imported my notes to my iPad, I noticed that all the annotations I took on my Macbook using Preview disappeared. Is there any way for me to be able to look at my notes on Notability, or any other PDF annotating app, while keeping my old annotations from Preview?

Normally, there is an option to "flatten" the PDF so that annotations are saved in the file. I don't know if your program on the Mac has this option.

What lexvo said - to do that in Preview, I think you simply need to chose 'save as' and save it as a new pdf.

Doesn't Dropbox work for this?

Import/export files to Noteability for signature al the time.
Notes shouldn't be any different.
